Every time I think that I am on the path to recovery, this virus seems to take hold again. Same thing with Caroline. She is home today because last night she was coughing hard enough to toss her cookies or in this case some water that was in her tummy still. Her fever is back but not as bad as before. My temperature keeps fluctuating too. But there is not much we can do because it is a virus and we have to let it run its course. I'm tired of coughing and not being able to catch my breath. So I am hoping that this will be over soon.

Now that we have our heat on, the cats have rediscovered the heating vent at the back of the couch. They will stretch themselves as long as they can and snooze. They are very happy cats right now. Fortunately we have enough couch space for all the cats to have their cat naps.

I did pretty well at bowling last night. I carried the team in the first game and really helped the other two games. I shot a 171, 184, and a 153 with a 143 average. Which means that my average will probably climb a couple of points by next week. Peter then went onto do well in his next league so it was a good night of bowling for the David Family.

Peter stayed up with Caroline last night because of the coughing. I sent him up to bed about 6:30 this morning and I honestly don't expect to see him much before noon today. Right now she is snuggling up against me.

I am grateful for anything that can keep me from coughing.

Or "Nobody expects the Spanish Influenza!"

We have had a virus running around the house from person to person recently. There is not much you can do about a virus except use medication to keep the symptoms from making the person totally miserable rather than partially miserable while they wait for their body to deal with the invader.

Because my head feels like it is full of cotton wool and my sinuses have been trying to break through the front of my face, I have been thinking a lot about illness and how we are never prepared to be sick or hurt.

I don't think we go out of our way and plan to have a cold. We just wake up one morning and know that we are not in the pink as it were. We can feel the beginnings of the sniffles, the cough, and that scratchy throat. We can try to nip it in the bud, but we can't decide not to be sick and it just goes away until we can put it in our plans. It would be nice if we could plan our sick days. "Ms. Jenkins, I won't be in this Friday because I am going to have a case of the flu and get it over with so if you could reschedule the budget meeting please."

We are not prepared for a debilitating health problem. They seem to happen and then we play catch up as to how to deal with the problem. I honestly don't know anyone who has "break my right leg at 3:45" in their day planner. But then I don't think they were planning to mis-step off the curb, fall and break their leg either. Health problems happen and we deal with them as they happen.

I have to say that I was not prepared when I had a miscarriage. Far from it. I don't think my friends who found out that either they or their loved ones have cancer were prepared for the news. Even though you may know it is coming, I don't think anyone is truly prepared for death no matter what they may say. It just happens and we deal with the aftermath.

Right now I am dealing with my cold and cough. I have medicine that allow me to almost breath normally without hacking up a lung. I have tissues to relieve some of the pressure in my nasal cavities. I have a LARGE glass of water with a straw at my elbow so I can try to stay hydrated and maybe speed this virus out of my body.

I am also dealing with Caroline's illnesses that she can't seem to catch a break from. She had bronchitis and now she has that nasty virus on top of that. I wasn't prepared for her being sick this long and I am hoping that she will feel better soon. Now if you will excuse me I have to get her to do her breathing treatment and I really need to blow my nose.

I wish you all good health.

No viruses were harmed in the writing of this entry no matter how hard I have tried to get rid of them. This is my sniffily entry in this week LJ Idol. I hope that if you liked it, you will be prepared to vote for me later this week.
