Today is my father's 70th birthday. My parents have some activities planned for the day. I hope they have a good one. My father shares a birthday with Prince Charles who is 60 years old today.

My father is a very creative person. He is a doodler with a fun style all his own. I still have some of my summer camp letter which has his illustrations in the margins. I still have the cloisonné pins he made me. He worked very hard to make them just so. My mother has a collection of the pins that she is very proud of. He has a good visual eye.

He introduced me to many authors through the years. He loved reading to me and I loved listening to him read to me. I have many fond memories of sitting down with my dad and a good book. I read to Caroline because of the example set by my parents.

I can remember watching Warner Brother cartoons and George of the Jungle with him. My parents limited the amount to TV I could see and I now understand why they did it. At the time, being a child, I thought they were being me but now I see that they were trying to make sure I did more than sit in front of the boob tube. Reading was an encouraged activity as was other forms of play like what we called the junk game.

My parents gave me a great childhood and a wonderful upbringing. I hope I can do the same for my daughter.

My father set a good example for us. He walked the walk as well as talking the talk. He helped us with our homework. Made sure that we could think through a problem using the scientific method. Taught us logical thinking. But with a sense of fun to it.

He deserves one of those "World's Greatest Dad" coffee mugs which when I was a kid I thought was some sort of award that was given out on Father's Day.

Happy Birthday Da. I love you.

I am grateful for my childhood memories of my time with my father.

"Cause we are off to the races and it is tight this week.

I wrote about rants and what I have to be careful about when I rant and why.

Funny thing is that there was a news article about a woman who got fired for her on-line activities including ranting about work on company time just this past week. And another woman was canned for writing a novel on company time when she should have been doing other things.

My rant can be read here

The voting is here and I am in the third tribe.
