Apparently the rules on Ebay are changing yet again on October 1st. As I understand it, you can't buy or sell except with paypal after that or money order or cashier's check (that is where I am a little sketchy) but it seems that personal checks will no longer be an option on Ebay. I figured it was heading this way anyway since most sellers will not take personal bank checks but the choice was up to the seller. They are also making it harder to sell on Ebay unless that is all that you do. Getting rid of a couple of items that you no longer need is not worth the time or money to the average occasional seller due to the fees and the rules.

But it still shows a certain muzzy thinking on the part of the people who own Ebay. They are no longer the only game in town. Sure the other sites are more specific (like Stubhub or Etsy) but they still allow people to find what they want. Also more people are creating their own sites to buy and sell stuff because it has become so much easier to do over the years. The Internet is much easier (in some ways) to use. And Ebay seems to be thinking like AOL did a number of years ago that they are the end all and be all and no one would not use their services but we know how that worked out for AOL. They are making it hard for the people who brought them to the point they are today which is not a good thing.

Oh side note to anyone who had my aol e-mail address as their e-mail address for me. It doesn't exist anymore. I can't get into the account and haven't checked my mail on those accounts in going on for a year now. Gmail account is best. I am Puppetmaker on that system. And for you live journal users, I am still Puppetmaker40 on that system. I have a Vox account under Kath the Puppeteer that I am going to start using for puppet and doll posts of which I plan to have a few more.

Getting rid of AOL was a little harder than I thought it would be emotionally. That was my first e-mail account and I spent a lot of time on it when the Internet was not as open as it is now. But now with chats and IM and all the rest, all that made AOL special is available in so many other formats that don't cost me extra money. Once they work the bugs out of the mac/me mess, I'll be good for the next couple of years.

And I am loving my iPhone. Oh I truly do. For those who have my cell number, it is the same as it has been since 1998. But I can do so much more with this gadget. It is a computer that fits into the palm of my hand. If I wrote this up back in the 1960, I could have sold it as a science fiction story but the reality is charging to my right.

We might be going to the NY Ren Faire today. We are sorting out various things about doing so today including the health and welfare of the family and the weather which currently looks pretty doggone good. Whatever we decide to do, today we will do it as a family.

I am grateful for AOL and Ebay even thought I think they screwed up their relationship with their customer base.
