It is very nice to have Peter back. The rhythm of the house feels back in order. Caroline was so happy to see him yesterday morning when she came downstairs. "Daddy!" she exclaimed "My Daddy is back!" and she ran with a big grin and jumped into his lap. She kept close to him most of the morning. She has been playing with her My Little Pony that Peter got her from San Diego. She teamed it up with the Superhero Pony that Peter got her last year. They have been saving the world apparently.

So a Senator forgot or misremembered that he didn't report that he let an oil company renovate his house. How can you forget these sorts of things? Sure he was great at bringing in projects with federal money that benefited Alaska and fighting other states on monies that they wanted to improve things in their state. The news media is also getting play about his comment about the Internet being a series of tubes again. But if his memory is that bad maybe he needs to step down from the Senate. He swears these charges aren't going to stick but they were brought against him while his buddy was president which says how tight a case they must have against him. I expect there will be a visit to Club Fed in this person's future.

Brett Farve has submitted his papers for reinstatement into the NFL. Green Bay has three choices if the commission accepts the FAX trade him, play him, or cut him. Personally I'd cut him. He has been playing this dance for a while and it can't be good for the team as a whole. All the energy is going to this one guy. I'll give you that he is the quarterback, but still. He stated that he was retiring. Maybe the NFL should take him at his word and let him stayed retired. And a friendly word to the Jets management, don't pick up his contract. You don't need what he brings to the table and the baggage that comes with him is more than you want to handle.

Mets won again. Since the week before the All Star Game, they have managed to look like a ball team rather than just a bunch of people paid a lot of money to entertain the masses. They are finally getting the hits when they need them and coming back to win games that I would have written off earlier in the season. Yankees are playing much better too as compared to recently. I find it interesting that a number of the sports writers are writing about the number of cities that have a chance for a World Series with the clubs in the area. Cubs and White Soxs aren't doing that bad either.

Olympics start soon. The men gymnastics team has lost Paul Hamm due to a broken hand. He was looking good too. I am amazed at the age range of people participating this year. There are people that have participated in quite a few Olympics previously who are having another go at it. Shows how far we have come in terms of being able to keep that edge needed to compete. I am betting that the athletes are probably tired of peeing into cups about now to prove that they are doing this on their own rather than with chemical enhancement.

I must say that the Olympic committee baffles me sometimes about the sports they declare metal worth and those that are not. So women's softball isn't but rhythmic gymnastics is? I mean why don't they have a gold for hula-hooping or underwater basket weaving? Softball is not an easy sport and the people who play it have some skills. Caroline can dance around waving a ribbon in a spiral and she is five. I haven't gotten this worked up since women's saber was yet again refused a place in the games way back when. I always like fencing saber. Of the three, it felt the most honest to me.

Off to do what I should have been doing yesterday.

I am grateful for NPR and their various programs.
