I made my word count today only because I did extra work on it yesterday. I have to try to get ahead for the weekend since we are going to a convention and my time tends to get eaten up by the convention. It will be nice to see Jewel and Matt again since it has been over a year. But I am pleased that I have almost made it a week while keeping my word count where it needs to be to complete this. I figure if I can make it through this month then I might be in the habit of writing every day so I can continue it.

Caroline woke up in a mood this morning along with a slight fever. She spent the morning going between sweetness and light and total meltdown girl. Peter finally got her to take a nap that she so desperately needed. Since she woke up she had been in a much better mood.

I have bowling tonight and I am hoping that my knee holds together for it. I bumped it yesterday trying to not step on a cat's tail and it was very sore. This morning it was a combination of my hip and my knee but some Excedrin and it seems to be work itself out. We'll see how it feels after three games.

As some of you know I get really torqued about faux agents. I got bent out of shape when I was at Del Rey but I kept quiet and just did the litany of what an agent was and wasn't. I still won't name names as it were because fraudulent agents are so hard to prove and considering the number of lawsuits against them, they tend to be a little lawsuit happy. Recently there was a very small kerfluffle on the Internet about agents and those dark evil forces that are against agents. Remember the mantra that you don't pay your agent unless your agent sells your work. Upfront fees should send up the Red Flag as not a good thing. I know some legit agents are charging reading fees and I can't say that I agree with the practice but I do understand where they are coming from. I would say stay away from reading fees as well but again that is me and you are all adults. One of the complaints that has been put out there to hang like a dark cloud by some so-called agencies is that the reason that SFWA fights against people getting screwed by agents is that they are jealous of your potential and want to keep you out of the magical publishing field. Horse Hockey. If anything they would WANT new writers to use faux agents and vanity publishers/presses because then they would never be competition in the legit market. I can't think of a pro I know that blood doesn't boil at the thought of potential writers getting ripped off by those who prey on them. The thought makes me sick.

I am grateful that Peter gave me an afternoon to myself.
