Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D!
Oct. 22nd, 2006 10:12 amIf you asked me what my favorite Tim Burton movie is of all time (at this time) I would say without even a seconds doubt Nightmare before Christmas. I loved it the first time I saw it in the movie theater and the next dozen or so times I saw it there. I loved it when I finally got the VHS tape and wore it out. I loved it when I saw it again on DVD. I still get chills with the opening song.
One time when I was at Disney MGM shortly after they opened it I went through the Great Movie Ride and at the end was an exhibit of the sets and characters from Nightmare before Christmas. I was in heaven while the people with me could not believe that I could spend that much time looking at the exhibit. They went off and did a few other things and came back while I was still looking and exploring all there was to see.
Fast forward a couple of years and I went into a Disney story only to find large plush figures from the film. I found out from my brother-in-law that Nightmare had become a huge hit and cult film in Japan with lots of neat products available so Disney was trying it here. And those plushies sold quickly. For the next couple of Halloweens My brother-in-law and I would keep each other informed and help each other keep our sets complete.
Peter knows that this film is in my top ten of favorites of all times and has gotten me some really cool stuff over time including the Fossil watch that came in a Lock, Shock, and Barrel bathtub and a prototype of one of the later stuffed toys. I have a set of the ceramic figurines that I think is complete. I do have all the earlier ones that were produced.
Now Disney has brought out a 3-D version of the film that I want to see. Caroline is interested too. She likes Jack and Sally a lot. She has watched the film a number of times and loves it. She likes to cheer Jack on as he rescues Santa Clause from Oogie Boogie. She has absconded with two of my Jack and Sally dolls that have adventures with her other animals. So I think we are going to see the 3-D version together.
I am grateful to be able to see this film on a big screen again.
