Yesterday was a little less hectic than the day before. So I had a little breathing room as the day went on. I did get lunch in between panels. Ariel took point on Caroline duty so Peter and I could get done what we needed to get done. We also managed to pull off dinner for a bunch of our friends which was no mean feat.

There is a restaurant in Atlanta that is not a big place but serves the best ribs in Atlanta called Fat Matt's Rib Shack. Next to it and owned by the same people is Fat Matt's Chicken Shack where you can get great southern food and kicking fried chicken. Peter and I love to take our friends especially people who haven't experienced the BBQ sauce, which is phenomenal. This year timing was not working to our advantage and we really wanted to take George Takei to the place since he does appreciate fine BBQ. Once we got our hotel room (which is very nice. Thank you Dragon*Con.) we had enough room to host a small party. We compared schedules and mine was the clearer one to go get food and I know where the place is. I got ribs and chicken and a few things like plates and napkins and drinks. Peter met me at the front of the hotel and we brought the whole shooting match up to the room.

Our friends joined us and partook of the fine feast we provided. George did like the BBQ. Everyone did. It was a nice mix for me of people I have known for years (Mary Aileen, Mike, Janet, and John), people I met through Peter (George, Brad, Paul, and Marv) and people we met after we got together (Candice and Graham). I got enough food for everyone to have a good meal but not too much so we had a bunch of leftovers. They appreciated not having to eat hotel food for another night because they couldn't get out of the hotel but needed to eat. The conversation was fun too. We're all here because of Dragon*Con but we were a very diverse bunch.

Peter had to run off to get ready to MC the Masquerade and the party broke up about the point that I had to go over and help him. I took Marv and Mary Aileen with me to get decent seats at the show which Ariel had saved for us. I think Peter and George Perez did a very good job at keeping the Masquerade moving and fun for everyone. Between the children's costumes and the adult entries Misty Lee performed a really cheesy trick that had the audience entertained. It was the usual mix of really good, pretty good and "what where you thinking?" Best in Show went to this wonderful recreation of the Dance of the Hours from Fantasia.

So that was the end of the day. The beginning was getting ready for the evening. The director of Masquerade told the audience to go easy on the contestants and that the MCs needed a little kindness too. They had a hard flight on their way to Dragon*Con. Peter and George enter covered in snakes which I had rigged for them. I have gotten more mileage out of that 7 foot python I build back in March than I thought I would. I did a panel on copyright and costuming that was very informative for all parties. I also moderated a panel with George Perez and Peter David on how the artist and writer work with each other. Our running gag for the panel was because George is now exclusive to DC and Peter is exclusive to Marvel that the contract states the they have to be one person's length apart so I had to sit between them to keep all contracts in place. I had one other I was supposes to be on but I had to pass on due to the Masquerade which I really felt bad about passing on it because I really liked the topic.

I know I have sold 2 Fluzzies and the 4th Doctor. I will see this morning how the rest of them did. A lot of people were waiting for the last minute to get their bids in. I have an idea what I want to make for next year if I get juried in. The Art Show staff especially Ann and Pat have been incredible this year. Aurora and Brian have made the Costuming track a lot of fun. Kathy is running the Star Wars panels with the usual combination of warmth and efficiency. If she had been in charge of the Empire the Rebels wouldn't stand a chance. Of course Bev, Heather, and the whole gang at the YA track are a blast and a half. I have two more panels today and then I am done except for packing up the puppets that are left in the Art Show.

I am grateful for the ability to be sensible.
