The rain that had been pounding the mid-west and the south has arrived on our doorstep. And the weather seems to want to make up for the lack of rain in one fell swoop. I wouldn't want to be out on a boat on a day like today or even just outside. This is one of those days when staying inside is probably the best idea. The good that comes out of this is that the pollen count goes down which will make Ariel's nose feel better.

So anyone else surprised that Chris got kicked off of American Idol? Both Chris and Catherine looked pole-axed when it was announced. No warm fuzzies to Ryan for making it sound like Chris was safe and then pulling the rug out from under him. So that leaves Taylor (who Peter and I are cheering for), Catherine and Elliot. Apparently the Elliot fans got off their kisters and onto the phone lines since he was in the top two with Taylor. I think Taylor thought his time had come when he was paired with Elliot. So we are down to 3 and a bunch of people crying foul.

Smallville season ender was better this year then it was last year. Last year we got to the end of the season and I though OK, I'll watch it next year to see what happens. This year I want to find out what happens next. Notice that in the world of Smallville the season ender makes it possible for them to dump any and all contracts of actors who don't care to come back or make a power-play for money.

Lost kind of lost its momentum in the middle of the season but it sure is picking up steam now. West Wing is wrapping up and I think it is going out at the proper time. Sorkin has something new next season that I know we are going to try.

The season ender of Veronica Mars has gotten fans talking. We found out some stuff that went back to last season and the questions we had about who had been in the bedroom with Veronica at the party when she was roofied. It had lots of tension and power shifting. Don't think we are going to see Harry Hamlin next year. Most people are grumbling about the text message Veronica sent which was a stupid message to send. But in the moment I could see someone of her age doing that impulsively. I do wonder what was in the briefcase and how they are going to keep the series going with Veronica graduating and off to college. Buffy and college only went so far and then it really didn't work.

I feel sorry for Hideki Matsui. He had worked hard to keep his consecutive game streak going. He was an every day player you could count on to be there. Now he has broken his left wrist and it looks pretty bad right now as in "season ending". The Yankees seem to be plagued by injury this year. Mets were robbed last night by the rain. They made it through the top of the 5th and since the Phillies were ahead the game goes as a win to the Phillies. But the Mets have been good come from behind players this year so who knows what would have happened if they could have completed the game.

James Frey has admitted in the paperback edition of "My Friend Leonard" that the book is basically a work of fiction. After what happened with "A Million Little Pieces" it doesn't surprise me that he is covering his ass(ets) on this one. He has been dropped by his publisher and it is unlikely that he will be picked up by another one. His career as an author at this time is over unless he makes a come back as a fiction author which I don't find likely. The line between fiction and non-fiction had become blurred over the years but I think it will be drawn a little more firmly now.

Anyone else tired of the Da Vinci Code? I did not like the book which I have stated before but the hype on the movie is really over the top. Consider the possible lists of disclaimers that are going to be at the end of the film if everyone gets their way. I also went into my local Borders to get a book for Peter for something he is working on and was shocked at the table that groaned with books about this one book that isn't very good from a literary standpoint but then I guess that is why it is called popular fiction. Everyone seems to be trying to ride this gravy train to the point of the absurd. Oh and that exists too in the form of the Da Vinci Cod.

I am grateful for anything that makes Caroline feel better right now.
