This past weekend at Icon
Mar. 27th, 2006 09:44 amThis was one of those packed weekends where a lot and a little happened all at the same time. So this is going to be sort of an info dump entry. I'll do another entry either today or tomorrow to discuss Doctor Who which we watched Friday Night.
Overall I had a lot of fun but could have used some more sleep to appreciate all the fun I was having.

I met Kevin Sorbo who goes into my Con sweetie category. He is so good with fans and answered all kinds of questions. When he signed something he paid attention to the person in front of him and no one else around him. I thought he was going to go blind considering how many pictures he took. Ron Glass was there too but all I got to do was wave on my way to the next thing I had to do. I was able to talk to Michael and Nancy Uslan briefly and wish I had had more time to do so. I did get to sit down with Judine and Terry Brooks and catch up on a couple years worth of news. That was nice. They are going to Ad Astra next weekend so Peter will see them there. I also got to spend sometime with George Takei which is always a pleasure. He is such a wonderful gracious person. He, Ron, and Terry were already in my Con Sweetie Category. I caught up with John and Nan Peel who are now taking care of a number of rescued dogs among their many projects. It was interesting to talk to John about the New Doctor Who.
I also got a chance to talk to a bunch of my Malibu buddies. That was great fun too. I love how you can get a bunch of fans together at a table or in a room and the conversation goes all over the map. It can start with something like discussing that the reason that the Doctor had so many female companions had something to do with the sonic screwdriver that has more than one setting and end with a discussion of the status of the micro-brewery industry with a lot of other topics in between. I had a lot of fun wandering around the Dealers Room with Jean and Brandy also.
This was all made possible because Ariel and her buddies took point on Caroline duty. Which was fine by Caroline because she likes hanging with the big kids. So they took her where they went and she had a great time. I did take her home a little early on Sunday because she had reached the end of her rope and needed to get back to familiar surroundings.

It only rained once this weekend while we were on campus and it was when we didn't have to be outside so that was fine by us. It was a little cold when walking between buildings to get from one panel to the other. I-Con is on a college campus so you end up doing a lot of walking. I did one panel which was a puppetry workshop. It was well attended with both adults and kids. I ran out of eyeballs but everyone who really wanted them walked out with a pair. I need to make up a sheet with websites and info for those who want to explore more about the subject. That panel went very well from my perspective. I attended a couple of panels about various subjects I like. I-Con always has a good array of people talking about all kinds of subjects. Good walking shoes are a must for I-Con.
Things
I got a sonic screwdriver this weekend. It can write secret messages and stuff. Yeah, I can be such a fan girl at times. We had some friends over to the house Saturday night which was nice. I got a chance to actually sit down and talk to people rather than wave as everyone ran to their next obligation. Caroline had fun at the party and went to bed when she didn't want to deal with people anymore. Ariel had a sleep-over with a couple of her friends. They stayed up and watched RENT. I'm pretty sure everyone had fun. We had a screening of "Monty Sauron's Flying Nasgul" for those who were not there for it. We also introduced a new group of Doctor Who fans to "Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death" which of course led to a discussion about the Doctor and who would have been good in the role if they had gone with the motion picture idea. Now I have to finish the last parts of the party clean up and getting the house back in order. Then I have to finish up my Easter Basket for a swap. In April I have the doll making class with Wendy Froud which I am looking forward to. I am also looking forward to things slowing down for a bit before the next project I must get done.
Oh! Spring started last week. I meant to comment on it then but there was a bunch of other things that came up. But I didn't forget. The weather has been showing signs of warming but not quite getting up much further than the mid 40s. Today it is finally suppose to get into the mid 50s which will be nice. I may take Caroline to the playground to play today.
I am grateful to everyone that made my I-Con experience so much fun.
