Overall I did have fun. It just took my brain a little time to process that I did have fun. I went into the convention tired and I left just as physically tired but mentally a little more refreshed. I discovered that I have a hard time blogging and doing a panel at the same time. It is not as smooth as my regular entries but I can focus more on those rather than what is going on around me with the exception of what Caroline is up to. As I type this she is playing with her wooden blocks but only the blue ones that are either rectangles or cubes.

The Hotel was/is under reconstruction. The smell of dust and glue was inescapable the whole weekend. This did bother my sinuses, made my eyes swell and water a bit and gave me a solvent headache. Thus giving me a pretty good zombie look the entire weekend. There were a lot of last minute changes as to what was where but not the when. It was an adventure to find the room your programming was in. By mid-day Saturday I had it pretty much down.

I did put stuff in the art show and sold nothing. My friend Mary Aileen put in a couple of her amazing stuffed animals and sold them all.
Her site is The Mouse Hole
I know my favorite was her purple cow which went to a very appreciative new owner. The Buntaur was great fun too. I did get an artist ribbon which allowed me access to the room when I needed it. I know I made people laugh and a few people sought me out to tell me how much they enjoy the puppets. I need to take a few pictures of the puppets I haven't taken pictures of. I might make another Flying Purple People Eater and made it a stuffed animal rather than a puppet. I am wondering if some people pass on them because they are puppets and the rods intimidate the fan because they don't know how to use them. The new thing I tried I didn't get any feedback on. They are not quite how I wanted them to be but they were a little last minute. OK I completed them at the convention with the wrong kind of glue.

Panels are fun now. I use to panic about speaking in front of people but now that I have done it for a while I don't even blink about it. I had really good panel members for each and everyone got a chance to express their point of view on the subject. The Harry Potter panel wants to have the same panel members but re-title the panel "Snape: Villain, Hero or Sex-gawd?" I think I got my biggest laugh on that one for the weekend. It can be hard to keep up with all the punsters that are there but I think I held my own.

Mary Aileen and I went out for food Friday night and Saturday morning to a local diner. Spent a lot less money than the hotel and many more choices. Not that the food at the hotel was bad but the choices were very limited.

The Masquerade was held in the Ballroom at the top of the hotel. There were 4 very slow elevators to get to it and the stairs. They got people up there two carloads at a time. I was up there early since I made the snake for the entry entitled "Everyone loves Alexander" so I had access to the green room. Which was nice because I was able to talk to a number of costumers I have gotten to know over the years or through the ICG discussion group. I did enter workmanship and didn't win for the snake. Maybe if I had informed the women that I had basically constructed the pattern myself she might have been a wee bit more impressed. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that if my workmanship is a puppet I should just forget entering workmanship. I don't think that the judges have a clue as to what goes into making the pattern and the puppet so I tend to get dismissed out of hand for the lovely beadwork or silk dyed cloth which has won that person an award before for the same skill by the same judges. I am very proud that Kim gave me a "Macedonian Family" ribbon for being the Macedonian Snake Handler of the group.

The drive home was a pain all the way on I-95 but once I got off of that I had a pretty easy time of it. I was feeling sorry for all my Connecticut buddies who had to use that route to get home. On the way up to the convention and part of the way back I was listening to my new Peter Gabrielle CD. I loved "The Barry Williams Show" track. I was also having flashback to over 20 years ago when I was driving with my brother up to a convention and we were listening to the new Peter Gabrielle album on tape. I switched to "Spam-a-lot" for the end of the trip.

I am grateful to my Malibu Buddies and look forward to seeing most of you at I-Con.
