The SFWA party was very nice as all ways. I caught up with a lot of people and met some new ones. It was worth my time to do. I am off to the city tomorrow to have lunch with some friends and then that evening see a show with my brother and his wife.

A Belated Happy Birthday to my Dad. I have been a bad daughter and not gotten the date right for the last couple of years even with reminders and a great cheat sheet from my mom as to who's birthday is when. My father introduced me to science fiction and fantasy. I still have very fond memories of my father reading "Wind and the Willows" and "The Hobbit" along with the rest of the Lord of the Rings books to me. He shared his love for these books with me and for that I can't thank him enough.

I have hanging right above my desk the Al Hirschfeld print that my parents got me for my graduation present when I graduated from the Yale School of Drama. My father strong-armed the framer to frame it with certain colors since it was the "Phantom of the Opera" print. It stayed at my parent's house until I found a fixed abode. When Peter and I announced our engagement, they figured that was secure enough and the print now hangs proudly in the living room.

My love for all things Pogo stems from my father's passion for the series by Walt Kelly. I can remember when we went around to find some product that had these PVC figures of all the characters. He did let us play with them. None of them are in mint due to baby teething and sunshine but they are well worn with love. He would read the Sunday comics to me when I was young. I can remember being curled up next to him on Saturday mornings watching Looney Tunes cartoons.

He is a great dad and an incredible granddad to his granddaughters. I had forgotten all the silly faces he could make until Caroline came along. His use of language and puns taught me a respect for English. He is a wonderful story and joke teller. He taught me a lot by example.

I love you Da.

I am grateful that my father is my father.
