Vacation’s End
Jul. 26th, 2005 07:25 amSunday-
We slept in a bit since we had been up late the past couple of nights. We headed over to the Magic Kingdom to meet up with a friend of ours and continue to explore Mickeyland. We had lunch at Tony’s where Caroline had (no big surprise to those who know her) pasta. Peter, Ariel and J. went on the Stitch Adventure while Caroline and I rode the People Mover twice.
We headed for Fantasyland where we got fast passes to the Peter Pan ride. For some reason that ride was popular and we had 2 hours between the time we got the passes and our ride time. Caroline fell asleep in her carriage on the way. Ariel, J. and I rode the Haunted Mansion which is my must see at Disney since they got rid of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Ride with the voice of James Mason narrating. We went to Pirates of the Caribbean which was not crowded at all. Peter, Ariel, and J. went while I sat with the sleeping Caroline in the air-conditioned shade. J. had to go to work that evening so we parted ways since it does take a while to get from Disney to Orlando proper.
Caroline woke up and was a bit confused as to where she was. The parade was in full swing so Peter put her up on his shoulders. She enjoyed it very much. We worked our way from Adventureland to Fantasyland and rode the Carousel. Caroline didn’t want to get off but we convinced her that other people needed turns too. It was time for Peter Pan.
I was a bit unsure how Caroline was going to react to the ride. Peter wanted to take her for her first trip through the ride since it was his must see at Disney. I am so glad that we got fast passes for it since the wait was 40 minutes and we got on in the time it took to walk from the pass entrance to the boats. We told Caroline that we were going to fly in boats. She looked a bit puzzled. “Fly?” she asked. She saw the boats and pointed to them saying very excited, ‘Boat! Boat!” We got in and took off. Peter told me that when the track ended and they started “flying” Caroline was so happy. She told Peter, “ Da, flying. I am flying.” Then she saw the moon over the London Sky and said, ‘Oh Da! The moon! Look the moon!” She bought the entire illusion and loved it so. She didn’t want to get off the ride and kept trying to sneak back on until we left the area. Disney Magic still works.
We worked our way over to Disney MGM for our dinner reservations at the Prime Time Cafe which is a favorite of Ariel’s. We rode the Great Movie Ride that Caroline liked about 1/2 of. She had a problem with loud noises. We went to Muppets 3-D and this time she kept the glasses on the whole movie. I know the 3-D was working for her since she reacted to the effects including reaching for Waldo. We made the decision that we needed to head for our hotel to finish packing up. I packed while Peter took the girls to the pool with a really cool waterslide. Ariel and I went for the Hoopla at the Adventures Club.
Monday-
6AM Peter and I got up and got the luggage to the front desk. Disney has a new service where you can check your bags and get your boarding passes before you go to the airport. We just made the cut for our flight. We got the girls up and went to the airport.
Boarding the plane was easy. Getting the plane up in the air and on its way was hard. Due to air traffic backup in New York, we waited about an hour and half on the runway at Orlando. We finally were given the go ahead to fly. Caroline was very good considering the amount of time we were making her sit. She slept part of it and watched Dora and other Nick Jr. shows for the other part. Right before we landed, we hit some turbulence and she made use of the airsickness bag as she lost the contents of her stomach into the paper bag.
The luggage made it onto the plane but it was a 40-minute odyssey to find it in the baggage claim area. They kept swearing it was on carousel 1 when in fact it was on 2. I found one of our bags when I went to see if maybe our luggage had taken an earlier flight.
We got home a little after 3 which was about 2 hours later than we thought. The cats were very happy to see us. Peter and I bowled our league and did fairly well. Caroline fell asleep in Daddy’s lap and is still snoozing in her bed. I think we are all glad to be home after a fun vacation.
I am grateful to everyone who made our vacation possible.
