Disney Summer 2005 Day 1
Jul. 24th, 2005 08:26 amWe started our day in Animal Kingdom since it is the only park Caroline had not been to and she loves animals. I am glad we did because we got to see Lucky the Dinosaur before he is packed off for Hong Kong Disney. He is the next step in auto-animatronics. He is a freestanding dinosaur that interacts with the audience. He pulls a cart covered in leaves which covers the operator and the rig needed to make him work. It is an incredible thing to watch. At one point Lucky “looked” right at Caroline who sat there with a look of amazement on her face. She believed that he was alive and she was not scared at all.
We went to see “Tarzan Rocks” which is one of the few shows I hadn’t seen. It is soon to be replaced by a “Finding Nemo” show which will probably be much better. It was OK and parts of it were stunning but there was so much filler before the arrival to Tarzan. When things were moving Caroline was engaged with the show but when it was just loud music she went between not interested to wanting to get out of there. We bailed right before the end of the last number.
We had lunch and then raced the storm clouds for the transport back to the hotel. We made it then the David Family finished re-hydrating and took a nap. We had dinner reservations at the Crystal Palace for early seating but Caroline was napping like a champ. Since this was for her we decided to take our chances and let her finish her nap. We went to the Magic Kingdom and explained the situation to the hostess who was very sympathetic. We got priority seating for the dinner and were enjoying the buffet in short order. Caroline loved meeting Winnie the Pooh and the other characters from the 100 Acre Woods. It is one thing to talk about a sense of wonder but it is another thing to watch it from a young child’s point of view.
We wandered over to Tomorrowland just in time for the people mover to break. Once it was repaired we rode that and Buzz Lightyear’s Star Command ride. We then took her on her promised Carousel ride. She was so happy. Next was the referbished “It’s a Small World”. I have discovered the best way to ride this ride is with a 2 year-old. It was that sense of wonder that you could see and feel radiating from her. She pointed out to me all the things she was seeing with great excitement.
We took the girls back to the Hotel. Ariel babysat while we went to the Adventures Club to enjoy the evening as adults. We had fun seeing the shows and interacting with the characters. We stayed through the Hoopla and said our good-byes to our friends there. We came back to the Hotel and went to sleep.
I am grateful that I did get to see the park through Caroline’s Point of View.
