We took Caroline to the Doctor. She had another bout of crappy diaper in the Doctor’s office. They have a good policy that there is a room to the side for the sick kids so that there won’t be lots of interaction with the kids just there for check-up and the little babies with little immune systems. By the time she got to the Doctor, she had kept down 8 oz of water, 4 oz of milk and a 1/3 of a banana. But she still had the diarrhea and was not her perky self. The Doctor checked her over and pronounced that Caroline had a stomach virus. She then gave us a list of do’s and don’ts for her. We were also informed that until Caroline goes 24 hours without a fever, she is contagious.

We brought her home and she alternated between playing and vegging. Peter had to go to the airport to pick up Ariel. The flight was coming in during rush hour so he figured that he would hang at the airport with Ariel and get dinner waiting for the traffic to lessen. He called me and asked what if he took her to a Mets game. They were in Queens and not that far from the stadium. I told him I could hold down the fort and go have fun.

Caroline fell asleep about six o’clock. I had one of her babysitter come by so I could go run an errand or two which I was going to do with Caroline until she fell asleep. I checked her diaper and it seemed not too wet so I figured if she slept through the night we would have a soggy diaper in the morning. I went to bed about 10 after watching the end of the game.

12:33 I heard Caroline on the baby monitor. She had put on her music box. I figured she was trying to go back to sleep. 12:53 Caroline starts to cry and it is her pain cry but it sounds weaker than usual. I call Peter to inform him that Caroline was up. He said he would be right up to get her. (Have I mentioned how much I love my husband?) I went into her room and picked her up. I changed the diaper which was wet but not soaked and passed her off to Peter. 2:28 I heard Caroline coughing and Peter saying Oh no. She was throwing up again. I got up at 6 to let Peter get some sleep.

According to Peter there was a lot of dry heaving going on last night because she had next to nothing in her tummy. This morning she has a low fever and finally fell asleep. I put her in her bed so she could get some solid sleep but I have the baby monitor next to my elbow in case she starts to heave again. I wish I could tell her that this too shall pass and she will feel better in words that she can understand. Right now all I can do is make her comfortable and try to get some food into her that she can keep down.

I am grateful for any food she keeps down right now.
