Can We Just Play Ball?
Apr. 17th, 2005 09:25 amThe Baseball season is a week old now but there is already speculation leading into October. Whatever happened to just enjoying the games rather than always trying to predict the end of a season? I am enjoying just being able to turn on a TV and watch baseball again.
Soon the Long Island Ducks will be starting to play again and we will probably go to a couple of games at that park. The Ducks won the Atlantic league this past year so they are starting out as the team to beat. Just to add to the fun, they have hired Johnny Rocker as a starting pitcher. You may remember Rocker did not have nice things to say about New York City and its inhabitants. He has joined the Ducks because he wants a venue for the major league to see that he can still pitch. Apparently he couldn’t find a job after he became a free agent. Might be because he is not pitching as well as he did a number of years ago.
“Fever Pitch” was better than I thought it was going to be. Fine performances with a really cute script. It is defiantly a date movie with baseball as a theme to keep the guys happy. The themes of love and obsession and what will you give up for love are well played. I didn’t feel cheated by a big plot twist that changes the whole movie. The story unfolds well and the conclusion is really funny. They did have to redo part of the script because the BoSox did win and break the curse. You wouldn’t have known it by the final film. Jimmy Fallon surprised me with a very under stated performance. Until this film, I found his acting annoying.
In news from the home front, we have had to get the doorknob covers for all the doors we don’t want Caroline to get into. I watched her yesterday open the door to the master bedroom with no problem. This morning I installed a couple on doors she must not go through without adult supervision. She had a wonderful temper tantrum when she figured out that she could no longer open any door she wanted. I am going to finish the installation when she takes her nap this afternoon.
I am grateful for childproof doorknob covers.
