Newletter Mania
Mar. 6th, 2005 08:48 amI belong to a number of lists and over time I have signed up for various newsletters. Here are some of the shows and products that are being pushed by various sources.
Disney is having its semi-annual pin sale on-line. I know that Disney pin collecting can be all consuming to the collector. Disney has done a great job for making it the cool thing to do while you go around the parks. I think they got this from the Olympic pin collecting and trading which started with the athletes trading pins with each other and now is big business. Personally, I have a few of the rides I like at Disney and a bunch of Nightmare before Christmas ones I have collected over time.
One of the more useful newsletters I get is the Apple one. I am, as I have stated before, an Apple user. This alerts me not only to new products but also free stuff like iSync which made my life much easier since I had a number of address in my mail box online and in my hard drive. Now the address books and calendars say the same thing. ITunes is another very useful newsletter. I find out about lots of music I didn’t know was being published by my favorite artists. I also do like the iTunes pay and play system. I have bought albums from them along with singles.
The Sci Fi channel is showing a movie with the following description (teaser), “A Scientist’s effort to cure West Nile Virus turns an innocent man into a monster!” The name of the movie is Mansquito!. Makes you wonder what they are smoking over at that network.
I have both the pay pal and Ebay phishing letters in my in-box. Between that and the one connected to a bank I haven’t had an account with for about 7 years, I feel included in the fraud that others receive in their e-mail boxes. I haven’t gotten a “We have money and want you to allow us to deposit it in our account” letter recently. The best had to be the spoof letter someone did that would let you in on a Klingon fortune.
The Food Network newsletter can have some nice links to recipes and ideas for food. I like their website as well. They have all kinds of advise for novice and advance cooks. I can’t get most of my meals to plate like they do but it’s still all taste.
HGTV (Home and Gardens) reminds me a lot of the magazine. There is a nice mix of advice for your home and garden. Some of it makes me a little depressed because I know my house is never going to be a designer home but considering that I have children and cats, I cheer up fast. I do like their organizing tips.
Mary Engelbreit studios is another example of a style that I love but know I will never attain. I have always liked her art-work and her magazine. One thing I really like about her magazine is the inside look at other artists’ studios. Those are what I really want to aspire to in my studio when I finally get the time/space to get it into shape.
Cirque Du Soliel is going to be performing Verekai at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. I am hoping that they are not dropping New York from their tour. I am willing to travel for Cirque but there is only so far I can or will go.
DYI (Do It Yourself) network is one of the newer ones I am trying. So far the amount of information I think useful to the amount that is trying to sell me something is not great but I am going to give it a little more time.
I have more E-bay notices than I would like from E-bay giving me all kinds of advise on things I can look for on their site. These are the legitimate e-mails from E-bay as opposed to the scam artists. I think that these are more of a reminder that e-bay is still out there than trying to sell me something.
Jet Blue and Avis are encouraging me to go off on a trip and have fun at more than ________ destinations.
My local library has started a series of online newsletters. I think they have a new computer guru there because these are very nicely done with lots of links and HTML work. I do like knowing what new books are coming into the library. The reviews are OK but not great. I have found a couple of books I wanted to read that I didn’t know existed.
The TV guide reviews and news have given me some interesting tidbits before I heard about them anywhere else. That is where I first read the canceling of Tru Calling among other things.
New Line Cinema I keep on my newsletter list just because some of the products that they are hawking for Lord of the Rings are really funny/absurd. I also like the Palisades Toys newsletter and Toy Vault. I belong to a number of studio mailing lists with interesting information on them but it can be hard to keep up with them.
I am grateful for all the newsletters and mailing lists I belong to even when I get behind on reading them.
