Good News on the Caroline front
Mar. 4th, 2005 08:54 amWe didn’t have to take her to the Doctor yesterday. She woke up perky and proceeded to tear through the house with boundless energy. She still has a bit of a cough but nothing like the other day. All involved think that she probably just had some congestion that was causing her ear to hurt. Once the congestion cleared up, she was fine. Last night she slept through the night which was a first this week. Her father and I were both grateful for the uninterrupted night’s rest.
We have acquired more action figures for the house. There is now a Pirates of the Caribbean set with Jack, Will, Barbossa, and Cursed Pirate. We didn’t go crazy and get all the variants. I think variants especially repaints are a fine example of a company trying to get more of your money than they ought to have. I have some figures that are collectable especially the Muppet figures but the company allowed me to buy them from the company without a great mark-up. It meant that I didn’t have to pay inflated prices for figures at conventions or on e-bay. I didn’t get any of the repaints except by accident. I really have no use for a Gonzo in a red vest as apposed to a Gonzo in the yellow vest. I have a Gonzo figure and that’s enough for me. I do have a Beaker and a Super Beaker but they are two entirely different figures.
This whole variant mess was brought to my attention with Star Wars Action figures. The first time I think it was an error that was corrected in the second run with a figure. The original figure became more “valuable” because it was not like the figure currently on the market. Someone in marketing took notice and now Star Wars variants seem to have their own commodities market. Star Trek figures started coming out with numbers on the bottom of the feet. To the collector, the lower the number the more “valuable” the figure. Then there are the exclusive figures, which is a whole other kettle of fish.
I am grateful for the Muppet figures by Pallisades.
