Lookin' For Fun
Feb. 3rd, 2005 08:54 amHaving a two-year-old means I don’t have to look far for fun. Caroline seems to be always doing something that is fun. A lot of it stems from doing things we take for granted for the first time. She experiments with what she can and can’t do. She doesn’t know that you can’t stack a square block on a half-circle so she tries to do so. She succeeded once, which was very amazing. Every time we play with her blocks I have lots of fun. Peek-a-Boo is another example. She loves to play with hiding and finding. She plays with her Dora figures and has them interact with each other. She has a toy cell phone that looks like Mommy’s that she will talk on for a bit and then bring it to me to talk on. She giggles as I converse with her imaginary caller.
Reading to her is lots of fun. She will bring me the book or magazine (She has a subscription to Babybug from her grandparents) that she wants me to read to her. She crawls up into my lap, gets settled, and then we go through the book together. She points out objects she recognizes and tells me what they are or asks me to tell her what something is. Reading to her has to be on her terms but she asks to be read to a lot.
I have fun when I make puppets or dolls. I even have fun when I blast through Costumes for a convention. Being creative for me is fun on so many levels. I love problem solving. Sometimes it looks like I am totally discombobulated but I know what I am doing. Some solutions may go to the wayside to be used later. There are no mistakes just extra parts to other projects.
I have fun going to conventions. I am looking forward to catching up with some friends at Farpoint next weekend. I know that I am going to hear “Caroline is getting so big!” a lot over the weekend. I like being on panels and listening to panels. I like watching the Costume Call and participating. I like meeting people at conventions. It has gotten to the point that more people know who I am due to Peter than I know who they are but that’s fine.
I have fun with my husband. We amuse each other with jokes and puns. We have discussions about lots of things that are always educational and fun. We support each other in good times and bad. We have fun with Caroline. We have created a rather insane ball toss game that Caroline knows the rules for but has not put us in the know. We only know when we make an error because she informs us loudly.
I have fun with my stepdaughters. They are great. We can just walk around and talk and have fun in just simple conversation. Ariel and I have a standing sushi date once a month where it is just the two of us for plates of sushi, conversation, and endless games of hangman.
I am grateful for all the fun in my life in its various forms.
