We have lost 2 in the extended Fan Family
Jan. 4th, 2005 03:06 pmWe got the car unpacked but that was about it. Yesterday was more about recharging the batteries than anything else. Driving for long periods of time can take it out of you. This morning I feel like my brain is functioning again at some sort of normal rate but it is still a little fuzzy.
We have Mommy and Me today. I also want to shop for groceries since the weather is turning into an icy mess and it is not going to get better.
Will Eisner died. He is probably best known for his comic book called the Spirit. His art style was the influence of so many comic book artists today. I met him once. Peter introduced me to him at the San Diego Comic Con about 2 and 1/2 years ago. I was pregnant with Caroline at the time. We did the short catch up on what our families were doing these days. He was a very nice man.
We lost Frank Kelly Freas earlier this week. He was the guest Artist at the first Science Fiction convention I worked staff for. I would run into him and Polly over the years and it always felt like old home week. I remember when Polly passed away. I sent a card to Kelly and the family. I heard that he remarried and was very happy. I felt happy for him since he deserved to be happy. I will always remember him at a young fan panel where he looked at what they have drawn and gave them praise and good advice all at the same time. He was always willing to teach or show others the how to of art. Like Will, he was a gentleman through and through.
I am grateful that I got to meet these great men.
