Happy Autumn!
Sep. 22nd, 2004 09:37 amAt 6:23 P.M. EDT today (9/22/04) the autumnal equinox occurs as the sun appears to cross the celestial equator, from north to south; this marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of spring in the Southern Hemisphere. So Happy Spring to all of you in the Southern Hemisphere and Happy Fall to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere. I plan to toast the coming of fall with a glass of fresh apple cider. The apples are out in New York and it is a sweet bumper crop this year. We will go pumpkin picking later next month.
I have this loony idea to change our front door and the small area behind into a set from Hogwarts and making Peter and myself robes to wear. I’ll have to see if that one percolates or goes away. Peter had his costume if he wants to wear his King Arthur outfit. I still seem to be in a costuming mode which usually goes away after I have finished a set of costumes. We are still decided what we should dress Caroline up as. Ariel has 3 costumes planned out from all the costumes she has. She only needs one or two items to finish them up.
I have work retail in my job lifetime. I have stood and had to explain why something someone thought was on sale is not since they picked up the wrong object or a customer has placed the wrong item in the sale slot. Last night I was at the fabric store (Big Surprise) and I ended up behind a woman and her son. The son had very good manners and was very well behaved in the store. The mother was trying to take the store for anything she could. She argued about the cost of the material she was buying and how much it was on sale. She kept leaving the cutting table with her order half done to try to find something cheaper to use thus tying up the line while she went off and looked. The poor young woman who was cutting her fabric looked at the expanding line and looked very sad. Then the mother tried to use a coupon on top of the discount and was upset to find out that it is spelled out that you can’t combine discounts. I got my fabric cut and then went to get a few other loose items I needed for various projects. I then found myself in a line waiting for the cashier with guess who at the check out. She said that the garland she wanted to buy was $4.99 but it was coming up $9.99. There was a sign she said. The manager checked the sign and pulled the garland that was $4.99 and told the woman that this was the garland for that price. The mother told her well this was on that hook so it had to be that price. The cashier tried her best to explain why it might have happened including that these garlands were on the hook next to the sign but were more expensive. The mother did finally buy the more expensive garland and finished her purchase grumbling all the way. I do give her credit that she told the cashier that she knew it was not the cashier’s fault.
I am grateful I have been on the other side of the counter.
