We had a lot of fun yesterday at the Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo New York. We didn’t have fun getting there or back due to the massive amount of traffic between the faire and us. Going we hit a jam that was, from what we can figure out, not accident related but police stopping traffic so an enormous bike rally could go through. We got around that after being stuck for half an hour and used the GPS system to get up to the Faire. 3 hours for what should be a 2-hour trip. On the way back any way across the Hudson River was jam-packed. We slowly worked our way to the least jammed crossing and arrived home 3 1/2 after we left the faire.

The time between the long car rides was a lot of fun. Caroline rode in a backpack on my back for most of the time. We did let her running around in controlled situations. She got herself on stage with the Wyrd Sisters and the Belly Dancers. When there are large crowds, she preferred being on my back rather than in the thick of it. The King Arthur gag went over very well. A number of people asked where our coconuts were and we would point to them hanging on my belt. I did take some pictures and barring the usual stuff that happens I should have them up by sometime tomorrow.

Ariel had a lot of fun with her friends. They saw the first joust, the belly dancing, the living chess match and perused the shops for shiny baubles to buy. A bunch of teenagers in ren garb giggling their way around.

Peter and I ended up a bit more on the move because Caroline really didn’t want to sit still. We saw a lot and heard some good music. The food hasn’t really changed from last year so we know what to expect and bought some of our favorites. We had a number of heads turn as their brains processed what they were seeing. Peter, since he was the king, was in front with me behind him, as Patsy, banging coconuts together. Caroline played the role of baggage.

The weather could not have been better. It was warm but not hot with a light breeze. The sky was blue with the occasional puffy cloud passing by. Good day to wear heavy period clothing because it kept you warm but not too warm.

All in all it was a good outing. Now I have to go wash or clean about 5 peoples worth of renaissance garb.

I am grateful that these types of faires exist and are thriving.
