After having brunch with Matt and Jewel, we started our DragonCon official duties with Peter’s reading at 1:00. 1:00 was the magic hour when many things started at the convention. What amazed me was the number of people already there.

The dealers Room was pushing room only. Caroline was in her stroller and she started to freak out a bit about all the people pushing in around her. Ariel and I got her out of the dealers room and brought her back up to our hotel room. Ariel watched her while I went back down with a puppet of Kwai Chang Kane and had it autographed by David Carridine. I made a present of the puppet’s “brother” many years ago. I stopped to talk to Jewel about Matt’s surprise birthday party and the mob to see the Firefly folks was amazing as well as the line for Peter Davison (the 5th Dr. Who).

I bailed on the dealers room and went back up stairs to take care of the muchkin and let Ariel lose to see what she wanted to see. There was a badge complication with my sisters badge and I handed Caroline over to Peter so I could sort that out. I just finished that when it was time for my first panel. It was about costuming for you. What works and doesn’t work. Very basic panel. I think it went fine.

I ran downstairs to the Artist Alley (across from the Dealers Room) to see if Caroline was all right. She is teething again, we think. She was rather warm and very cranky. Ariel helped me get her back to the room and babysat her little sister while I went off for my second panel of the day. There are some new tracks of programming this year. I did a panel on Horror and Suspense-Too Dark for Children in the Young Adult Track. By this time I could feel my tummy rumble and my brain fog up from too little food and sleep. I muscled through the panel which was very interesting then ran for the Firefly panel since I had promised Jewel I would come with a clever question. In the middle of that I fed Caroline dinner and passed her off to her father. Caroline fell asleep in her father’s arms while he watched the Atlanta Radio Theater perform “Shadows over Innsmouth”. Ariel and I made it into the Firefly panel on the the strength of my All access badge. I asked Jewel since she played at the age of 13 an hyper intelligent super engineer and recently played the same role in Firefly, did she feel that she was being typecast? Good laugh from the audience and good answer from her.

After that the wheels went off the wagon and I felt my blood sugar hit the basement or below. We went back to the hotel room and finally order up dinner. I took a nap and then went to Matt’s party. It was a nice gathering of people and we all had fun. I went to bed a little before 1 this morning and got up with Caroline about 7:30. Today I have two panels and a run to the grocery store for a few items we need. Dinner is sort of fixed since we are going to the banquet if I can find our tickets.

I am grateful for sleep and food.
