Walmart strikes again
Aug. 12th, 2004 08:21 amToys ‘ R Us may go the way of Lionel Playworld and FAO Schwartz. They are spinning off the profitable Babies ‘R Us and probably going to sell their 200+ toy stores. Which is really going to stink. The big discounters are apparently taking a chunk of their business. The stand alone toy store will become a thing of the past. I like browsing in Toy Stores. Looking at all the toys. I can remember almost getting kicked out of a toy store because Magic Earring Ken so amused my friend Jeff and me. The only action figures I am getting these days are the Muppet figures and I am having better luck at comic book stores than toy stores. But still I will miss being able to go to the Barbie section and giggle.
Speaking of Barbie, they are releasing two more Lord of the Rings figures. This time they are not sell them as a set but separately. One is a Legolas Ken. I thought Ariel was going to start drooling on my computer when I showed her the picture. She is a really big Orlando Bloom fan.
It looks like I will be doing some panels at DragonCon this year. A couple for the Star Wars track and a few in costuming and YA literature. Both the costuming track and the YA track are new but I think really good additions to DragonCon. I also hope to hook up with some of the online groups I am a part of. I am beginning to think that we should set up a mentoring program for people who this is their first DragonCon or first Con at all. DragonCon has so much going on and the old hands know how to navigate it without too much trouble. If DragonCon was my first con, I might be a bit intimidated by the size and scope of the convention. Match fans with similar interests and have an orientation session for the new attendees. I know that a lot of this happens already as friends bring friends but it might be nice for those who are doing this solo.
Another blogger has been doing this for a week now so I though I would try it. They list one thing they are grateful for from the big to the small. So to start with I am grateful that I have my husband in my life.
