Whatever Happened to Fay Wray
Aug. 10th, 2004 09:18 amdon’t know when I am going to post this. My internet connection is not connecting this morning. I am hoping that it will shortly. Since this has happened once before and I have checked all the connections on my end, I expect it will show up when it is ready to. *sigh* If it is not one thing then it is another.
Fay Wray passed away in her sleep at 96. She is best known for a song in Rocky Horror and her role in King Kong. A couple of months ago she asked her friends to take her to the top of the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building will dims its lights this evening from 9:30 to 9:45 in tribute to the actress. I first saw King Kong on TV or at least a piece of it. There was a Saturday Morning TV series that I can not remember the name of but they did a Halloween episode that showed the first meeting of Wray and Kong. They showed the Wolfman’s transformation which at the time I thought was cool. Then they showed the reveal from Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney Sr. That gave me nightmares for years. I finally saw the whole movie of King Kong years later after reading about the special effects that were used. Since being terrified by Lon Chaney, I have become a very big fan of his work. Most of his best roles were not under heavy makeup.
Invisible friends seem to be the next “big thing”. This Friday Cartoon Network is showing a new series about a retirement home for invisible friends. On NPR this morning (support your local public radio or TV station) they talk to some one who wrote about his daughter’s invisible friend which is being turned into a movie. I think many children have invisible friends. Some of them talk about them and others don’t. I didn’t have a friend. I had a whole village of invisible companions and I use to make up stories about their lives in my head when I went to sleep at night. When I was older and to this day if I can’t get to sleep I use long division putting a 3 digit number into a 7 digit number or running through various pieces of Euclidian geometry but occasionally I still tell myself stories to go to sleep to.
