The House of Mouse
Jun. 19th, 2004 11:00 amDreamCon was very nice. The people who are running it went beyond the call of duty to make sure that everyone was having a good time. I met Ron Perlman, Brian Thompson, and Jewel Staite. Jewel was on Space Cases many moons ago. It was fun hanging with her and her husband. I got to spend time with Marv and Noel Wolfman, Arne Starr, and my step daughters. There was great food and good conversation. So DreamCon was a thumbs up for conventions.
We then made the trek to Disney World to introduce Caroline to the wonders of the Mouse. We had limited time the first day due to reservations for the Hoop-De-Doo Review and the periodic downpours. Her first ride was Pirates of the Caribbean which she was a little unsure about until we got past the dark parts. Then she was pointing and exclaiming about everything she was seeing. Then we took her on the Haunted Mansion which was less of a hit. She doesn’t like total dark since she has never really been in that situation in her little life. She did like the ghost hitch hikers at the end. We exited the Mansion to a downpour. They were holding people there because of lighting strikes in the area. The clock is ticking and we are getting close to our dining reservation. We were told to get there by 5:15. We got to the boat finally at 5:05 and to the Fort Wilderness Dock at 5:25. The Manager of the Hoop-De-Doo was standing outside the venue waiting for the boat to arrive. He held the show and got the last couple of parties seating. He so deserves some good luck for all he did to get us in for the show. We had a Hoop-De good time. Gwen and Shana wanted to veg so we left them at the cabin and went to Pleasure Island to one of our favorite places on this planet, the Adventurers Club. Caroline was fascinated with the puppets in the club. Especially Babalonia and the Coronel. We stayed until the Hoopla by which Caroline had fallen asleep.
Tuesday we went to Epcot and took Caroline to the Living Seas where she was fascinated by the tanks of fish. We then met up with an friend of the family and his baby daughter. We wandered the World Show Case. Hid during a nasty thunder storm in Mexico and went back to the cabin. That night Peter and I went to Victoria and Albert's and had one of the best dinners we have had since the last time we went to V & A’s. It was nice to have some time just the two of us. Afterwards we went to the Adventures Club to round out a very nice night. I packed Peter and Ariel for the trip home and went to sleep very late.
Wednesday we went to Disney/MGM and I made bee line for the Muppets 3-D. Caroline wouldn’t wear the glasses for very long, but she had a lot of fun. She giggled and pointed at the penguins and Sweetums. We then had a slightly early lunch at the Prime Time Cafe. Afterwards Ariel got to take Caroline to the Little Mermaid Show. Caroline was watching the first number with great fascination which is an all puppet number of under the sea. The next scene was Ariel the mermaid singing “Part of your world” which she became a squirmy handful until the giant Ursula Puppet came on and then she was fascinated by the puppet. After that I had to get Peter and Ariel to the airport leaving Caroline and me on our own.
I ran some errands on property. Picked up some items we had bought at the trading post and bought replacement suitcase for one that the cats destroyed. We went back to the cabin and I let Caroline run around. She loved getting up on the beds. She was sleeping on a lower bunk bed with a guard rail and really enjoyed the fact she could get in and out of her bed herself. She also loved getting up on the double bed with her bears and blankies the whole time we were there. After we had both had dinner and a little time to rest, I took her back to the Magic Kingdom. We went on the Carousel 6 times in a row and saw PhilharMagic. This time she wore her 3-D glasses until Donald stuck his butt out and then the glasses came off. Then we saw the 10 o’clock fireworks from a great position. She was startled one or twice but overall she enjoyed them. We got great seating for the electric parade and she fell asleep about 1/2 way through. I took her back to the cabin and put her to bed.
Thursday we went back to the Magic Kingdom and rode the Tomorrowland transit system and then went to Mickey’s Toontown. She met Mickey at his location in Toontown. We weren’t sure how she would react to the Characters but she loved them anytime she encountered them. There was one family ahead of us to meet Mickey and I had to hold Caroline back since as soon as she saw Mickey she wanted to go to him. It was our turn so I left her go. She ran right to him and patted his knee. I sat her next to Mickey and she babbled to him and patted his glove with an ear to ear smile on her face the whole time. I had to pick her up when her turn was done. I then let her play in the kiddie playground until she wore herself out. We didn’t get to Animal Kingdom. I drove over there but she was asleep so we went to Downtown Disney were I got some lunch and we looked around the place. She liked the Legoland area. We then left for the airport to catch our plane which was about an hour late. She watched “Finding Nemo” on my IBook while we waited and was a very good girl. We got back to New York and Peter picked us up at the airport. It was a fun trip but it is nice to be home.
