I was there to see a record broken...
May. 6th, 2004 09:51 amAfter I had lunch yesterday, I went to Midtown Comics to see what had come in this week. If you are visiting New York and get a hankering for a comic book store, Midtown is 40th between 7th and 8th. The Drama Book Shop is on the same street which I went to also to pick up a few books I had read about that were drama books.
These stores are in what is called “The Fashion District”. There are a lot of fabric stores there. I spent about 3 hours looking at fabric for the costumes. I didn’t buy anything since I didn’t want to haul it to the stadium then home. So much to look at and through. So many ideas came into and out of my head. Most of the fabrics I liked the best were in the 34.00 to 90.00 range. That’s per yard and if you need 7 yards, it can become a pricey costume. I didn’t hit the shops that had beads and braid. I figure I will take a day and plan out my route then really go to town. I say “Thank You” to the older gentleman that tried to help me find a very specific looking fabric. He sent me to another fabric store that had somethings close to what I was looking for.
About quarter to 5, I started from Time Square to Shea Stadium. The 7 was running intermittently through Grand Central due to tunnel work. I wish kind things to the woman in the station who told me how to get around the mess by taking another train to the station they were telling us to go to and how many stops it would be after we left Manhattan. So I did as she said. A lot of people had and the platform for the 7 was a mess. 2 trains came through as I waiting my turn to get to the front of the mob. I have not so kind thought to the individual who HAD to get on that train and pushed so hard that people were in pain. His ass was still outside the door. I said screw this and got off. Gave him a not very nice European salute. Last Laugh on you Mr. Schmuck. The next train was an express and practically empty. We rode in comfort to the Ballpark as apose to your smooshed experience.
They let people in the ballpark an hour and half before game time to watching batting practice. It took about an hour to get to the park so it was about 5:45. I went to field level and watched the Mets take batting practice. I heard that Bonds was a scratch again. Sinus infections can be real nasty so I do hope he is feeling better. It was very interesting watching the players from behind the Mets Dugout. When the Giants took the field I went to my seat and relaxed. I was joined by a couple of friends a bit later. It was COLD. I was glad that I didn’t have Caroline with me. I had on a t-shirt, a long sleeve shirt, a Mets mesh shirt, a denim jacket and a raincoat. I was also wearing my thick jeans and warm shoes. It was great seeing Piazza set his home run record. Now he can go to first base with out regrets. I had to leave the game about 9 to make my train home. About quarter to 8 the skies opened up and the rain came down in sheets, buckets, and any other metaphor you want to come up with. So I left the game with in the top of the 5th. After an hour and 19 minute rain delay, they resumed the game and the Mets went on to win it 8 to 2. It was a fun day.
