puppetmakerToday I was reminded by my Facebook memories that ten years ago I attended the wedding of Brad and George Takei. We were seated with our friends Harlan and Susan Ellison. We met a lot of people that day from all the facets of George and Brad’s life. It was a lovely ceremony and an amazing reception. Now if you had told me back in graduate school when I was at the end of my rope that down the road this would be part of my memories, I would have laughed very hard.
But I think I would be rather incredulous as to how my life turned out from that rather dark time.
I am happily married to my loving husband with three wonderful step-daughters and one daughter. Peter has two going on three grandchildren in our lives. I have three cats who seem to see me as their cat gawd. They do come to me to hide or settle a dispute with the other cats.
I build puppets and those puppets have lead me to some pretty incredible adventures. I belong to the puppet tribe as one of them. I stage managed a lot of interesting shows through the years. I became a book editor for an imprint I would look for new books by because I love their catalogue. I have edited authors that I read as a youngster and loved their work. These people I can now call friends and colleges. I have written comic books, video games, and short stories that have been published and enjoyed by other people.
I have met and become friends with people whose work I have enjoyed on the large screen, the small screen, the stage, and the animated realm. And they are happy that they know me which really blows my mind. I have meet my childhood heroes and am glad that I did. I have discussed topics with people who are considered the authority on those particular topics.
I have made the move from fan to pro but I still am a fan. Just makes that rules slightly different for me. I have opportunities that I have because I am a pro which I am very grateful for.
My life from that point where I made the decision to live has been amazing.
You never know what is around the corner and how it can so change your life.
It got better for me and I am so very grateful that I am still here.
