LJ Idol Season 6 Free Topic Winter Wonderland

It is amazing to me how much I still love snow considering what got dropped on us last weekend. When I was a kid growing up in Boston, we had one of the worst storms that Boston had seen in ages. I can remember my father having to go out a second story window to get the backdoor dug out. They bribed the local snow plow unit with two bottle of good scotch and about 100 dollars to plow out the drive that we all used. But my best memories come from the snow fort that my father built for me in the snow. It was twice as high as I was. He put in a couple of snow benches for me and my friends to sit on. We played in that snow house until it melted. I loved the snow with a passion.

We moved down to Atlanta and were much amazed at how just a dusting of snow could cause an entire city to shut down. It just seemed silly to me. I can remember when we got about a foot and the kids were going on about how much it was. For me this was next to nothing. I showed my friends the pictures of the snow back in Boston.

I moved up to New Haven for graduate school and we had snow in October so I felt back in love with snow but not driving in it. I didn’t have to shovel it and I enjoyed it.

Now living up in New York, I have had to deal with snow at least once a year. I shovel it and deal with the icy walks. I didn’t think like it as much as I did as a kid. But now I have a child and this past weekend I saw that look in her eyes as she played in the snow. I remember that look, I had it once to. And my love for snow lives on in her.

Cute pictures! Remember being young enough to want to lie down in the snow?

Its funny. I've become that boring husband from "Barefoot in the Park" who looks at the snow and thinks how illogical it would be to lie in it and make an angel.

Thank you for an entry that reminds me that sometimes its important to just do what's fun.

You're married? So is your wife a barrel of laughs like you or the straight person to your jokes? I bet there is a lot of laughter at your house:)

This was so beautifully written:)

I love the ending so so much:

But now I have a child and this past weekend I saw that look in her eyes as she played in the snow. I remember that look, I had it once to. And my love for snow lives on in her.

I see that look in the eyes of my children sometimes, with certain books or toys or swinging on the swings etc. I get to experience that love of something that I used to have all over again.

It's the fun part of parenthood.

Wow, I live in AL, hard to imagine enough snow to have a snow fort! Your photos are great!
