Plague Post

Yesterday was a long day even though it was still 24 hours. Caroline’s fever kept spiking even with counter measures. I made an appointment with her Doctor for 4 pm but by Noon she was 104 and we were afraid it would keep climbing. So Peter took her to the Doctor. They did some tests and came back with those words that parents don’t want to hear this flu season, H1N1. She is now on tamiflu and a regiment of meds to keep the fever down and make her comfortable. This morning she is showing signs of being back to her old self. We have to see how she is doing tomorrow to determine if she is going to school on Thursday. Like I said, a very long day. Peter stayed up with her all night and I took over this morning to let him get some sleep.

I didn’t get anything done about just about anything else including the novel writing. I just couldn’t get my head into the game because I was so worried about Caroline. Peter went on to write the next two issues of X-Factor so it is easy to tell who the professional writer is in the house. The man is a writing machine.

It is nice to know what is wrong with our little girl but at the same time it is kind of scary. I know she will get better but we have to keep an eye on her to make sure that the fever doesn’t get too high.

I am grateful that we have been able to keep her temperature down.

very, very few people who are getting H1N1 in its current form die from it.

Though it is understandable that you would worry. *hugs*

As I told Peter on his blog, I hope Caroline gets better soon.

I'm sorry, dear. Prayers for Caroline. And make sure you don't get it!

Whoa. That would have freaked me out. Hope she gets better soon.

The highest fever I ever had was when I was about Caroline's age & got the flu. My mother wound up putting me in a tepid bath to help bring it down.

As long as you keep doing what you're doing, she'll be alright. Watch especially for temperature spikes in the late afternoon / early evening.

Caroline is blessed to have such loving parents that will stay with her through the night. I hope she pulls through okay, which it sounds like she will...

we had H1N1 couple of weeks ago - only thing I thought was different about it...it seemed longer than the typical flu.

We're still recovering from the respiratory problems (that's typical for us, except it's not as bad as usual)

Influenza A kills people too...just doesn't get as much press...

Please send extra hugs and cuddles to Caroline from Aunt Sheila!

If it helps at all with the scary, current wisdom on H1N1 is that it's really no worse than the usual seasonal flu virus - just a different variant. (I get this both from my husband who is an EMT and from my workplace which deals with health care.)

Sounds like Caroline is on the mend, and I'm very glad to hear it.

Ack! So scary! Hang in there. And no wonder you were distracted yesterday. The important thing is helping Caroline feel better, and I know you are!

You and Peter should also remember to take care of yourselves. H1N1 is quite contagious. Try to avoid an extra week of sick if you can!
