I am really curious

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

You were still working at Oxford comics, and I was in for my monthly pickup, and we were chatting. You told me on the hush hush that you were dating Peter, and you just looked so happy and it made me smile.

I'll go with the most recent: you, me, and Peter at that excellent brewpub having dinner before I saw Arlo Guthrie. It was fun to just sit and hang out in a non-convention atmosphere....

Not just a single memory, but a collective: Walking home from Droodles, taking the shortcut through Emory and stopping for ice-cream in the Village. What was the name of that place? It was wonderful. I was so sad when it burned down.

I would like to have a memory of you, but we've never met. Are you coming to WorldCon?

The age of husktering....

[identity profile] docwhoopee.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
popped into mind for some reason.....a year or two ('85 to '86?) going to cons and paying our way by sitting at our dealers table selling buttons, a couple of t-shirt designs lifted from the Edison Carter show, and my early plexiglass blade work. We covered each other for the dealers room hours (thank you for covering the morning shifts as I recovered from my hangover) and probably sat together for two hours each convention. But it was one of those proofs of convention attendance theory - if you stayed in one place long enough, you would meet everyone at the convention.

That tour in Nam we did.

Never going to forget it, or the things we were forced to do to survive.

You being nice whilst I geeked out in a ludicrous way over who your husband is...

[identity profile] beldar.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
There should be one -- there really should. Considering I've met your husband, even got an autograph from him once, and all the conventions I've been to throughout middle America (including numerous GenCons). But then, would you remember me either? I'm not that spectacular (or outspoken like my companion, the_dark_snack).

So I hope we have met in real life, and that I was polite.

Your wedding. Everything about it - the little bus you sent around to ferry people to and from the hotels, the ceremony and reception, the nice get together your parents had at their house.... everything.

Well, I have no memory of being with you in person but I do recall a few evenings spent in a favorite chatroom. Sadly I guess that old chatroom has gone to that graveyard where all old technologies reside. I miss you AND most of the 'regulars' from there on the rare occasion when I have something insightful I wish to share.

I remember how shocked I was when I realized just who you are. I knew of you, knew your husband, had seen you at cons and so on, and realizing that I *do* actually know someone "famous" was just a heck of a mind-slap. (I always tease that I am not important enough to know anyone famous or infamous....)

NYCC!

Made my day!

I have the pictures to prove it.

Weirding out Clive Barker with a puppet at DC years ago.

(You had the puppet, not Clive)

I've never had the pleasure of meeting you in person, but I do remember finding your blog, which lead me to your El-Jay. I was flattered that you friended me, and I've enjoyed being privileged enough to get a glimpse into your life, as well as appreciative of when you comment on mine.

I've met Peter many times at Dragon*Con, and now I'm hoping that I get a chance to run into you as well!

PMEB! :)

I still can't believe it's been over 10 years since that list started. Closer to 12 now, I think.

The first time I met you was in the airport at the gate for a plane that was heading to Milwaukee, I think. I know it was going to GenCon, I think that it was long enough ago to be Milwaukee bound. I just remember thinking "Here comes someone who seems to know us, but I don't know her" and then [livejournal.com profile] gryphonrose introduced us, and I thought you were very nice, and i figured you thought I was really odd because I hadn't slept in a couple of days and was rather spaced-out.

I don't have an 'in person' memory, obviously. But I remember being drawn into your Idol entries by your frank writing style and your obvious fondness for your family. And then when I started reading your journal, I appreciated those qualities even more -- they weren't just a cloak you put on for Idol. Not to mention that your world (puppetry, writing, cons, etc.) seems like such a grand adventure at times. :)

OMG...where do I begin? I think at the beginning, when you came to rescue our little MRAP production (was it "Night at the Olde Phoenix"?) I remember thinking, "OOooooo, a professional." And you certainly proved me right. You were amazing and whipped us into shape.

I also have a fond remembrance of my one (and only, I think) visit to your parents' wonderful house near Emory. What a cool, fascinating place that is.

And always, I think of your energy, talent and creativity. You still wow me. :-)

(Oh yeah...and a big thank you for letting me deliver your Doc5 puppet to Peter Davison. That still ranks as one of my all time best convention memories. ;-)

We haven't yet met in person, but I remember watching my NPR friend [livejournal.com profile] speedlime chat on the phone with you after that party that Peter was nice enough to come to. (She and I will be at DragonCon, so perhaps we'll see you there?)
