Heath Ledger found dead (not a joke)

It came up on my radio that the NYPD has reported that Heath Ledger was found dead in his Manhattan Apartment by his housekeeper.

Kind of puts a different spin on the Batman film don't it?

I will always enjoy his performance in 10 things I hate about you and A Knights Tale.

He was 28 years old and at the top of his game.

I am stunned.

I just saw that and I'm floored.

Apparently the rumor is it was a drug overdose.

Really, really sad.

Stunned is the word. Dear God. What a loss.

The geek-friendly radio hosts I'm listening to are stunned as well. They're big fans of his.

Wow! I had to do a double take when I saw your title.
That is really sad.

I just can't believe it, it's completely surreal...

[identity profile] billritch.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The news articles say "pills were found near him."

Maybe he had a congenital heart condition or something. BUT, I'm afraid that, with young actors, a surprise death is usually drug-related.

What's even more surreal is that it was Mary-Kate Olsen's apartment. I'll probably watch _A Knight's Tale_ tonight in tribute.

EDIT: Never mind that. NY Times is now saying it wasn't her apartment.

This completely sucks. And apparently, they're still doing post on The Dark Knight.

Him, Brandon Lee (who he was the same age as), River Phoenix. Why do so many of the young greats die so, well, young, while Paris Hilton keeps breathing?

[identity profile] puppetmaker40.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I know quite a bit about the Brandon Lee accident because I had a BUNCH of buddies that were working on the Crow. It was beyond stupid and so could have been prevented if the proper safety measures had been followed. But they were trying to get the last shot in for the day and save money.

That reminds me of a documentary I was watching the other day about people who work on movies are expected to work incredibly long hours for not much pay, and they're prone to accidents just from exhaustion. Ah! It's called Who Needs Sleep? (http://imdb.com/title/tt0493079/)

[identity profile] sneezythesquid.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's really what made Brandon's death a sickening tragedy, that it shouldn't have happened, if people had been paying attention to things. It was just senseless.

They have talent; she does not.

I was stunned, too.

Indeed. It's just not fair.
