According to the FCC, viral marketing needs a cure....
Or at least a disclaimer or two attached.
As of December 1st 2009, if you review products in your blog and you have any connection to the advertisers including free products or monetary compensation, you must reveal this connection on your blog or you are breaking the law with fines and other badness to follow. This goes for Twitter and other social networks like facebook. Also advertisers, say of weight loss items or pheromone perfume, can no longer use a-typical results in their ads or it must be obvious that those results are a-typical.
Viral marketing is really still in its infancy. There have been a few successes but not that many. The FCC seems to be trying to get a handle on this new form of advertising early rather than regulating on the back end of things. I have a feeling that this is going to be challenged in court but this is not out of nowhere. The FCC had announced it would be looking at this topic last year.
I rarely review anything here but I don’t get free product in hopes that I would review it. Anything I review I bought in one way or another. So there is my disclaimer to the FCC’s request/orders. If this changes in anyway, I will be sure to tell you.
I do wonder how various forms charitable things are going to work with these new rules or if it is for a charity the rules are different.
I have seen both the new spoiler pictures and the new logo for Doctor Who. I like both. The update of the logo is not out of left field since there had been rumors of yet another logo change at the beginning of each season. And the logo has changed a lot over the years. I really like the clever way they put the TARDIS in there. I saw it on ComicMix.
Speaking of older British series, did you know Monty Python aired 40 years ago? Still a staple of the college experience and still funny. I think I am going to watch the parrot sketch today or maybe just throw on “Monty Python’s Flying Nazgul” for a lark. Speaking of Pythonians, does anyone know when “Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” is going to open in the US? I was told October but there doesn’t seem to be a sold date even for a soft opening. I really want to see that film.
Got to get Caroline ready for school and then onto the next project.
I am grateful for information about stuff I like.
