New Who Review for "The Runaway Bride"
Welcome back to a third edition of the New Who Review to go long with the third season of the current Doctor Who TV series. Before we begin I want to say something about spoilers in the comments and in the cut. I do a cut because not everyone has had a chance to see this episode yet (or any of the others from this season) and I want it to be as big a surprise for them as it was for me. Along that line, I kindly request that only the episodes that have aired on the SciFi channel be discussed. There is a lot of foreshadowing to the final episodes all through the season and I know it is fun to connect the dots but please allow those who are seeing it for the first time to connect the dots themselves. Also I know about the 4th season casting and would prefer that we keep that out of this too. A new feature this year is the scary factor based on Caroline's reaction to the episode since at 4 I think she is close to the original target audience. Thank you very much for your cooperation in this.
On to the Review....
I had seen Catherine Tate in a few things before this but do confess that I didn't really know who she was until after this episode aired and then I saw the red noses segments with her. So I judged her performance originally just on her acting not on her reputation for her comic timing (which is brilliant in my opinion).
"The Runaway Bride" was a good episode of Doctor Who. It took place on Earth. We had a new point of view character. There was a bit of a mystery to solve by the Doctor. And there was a good old fashion monster with good old fashion motives as to why it was doing what it was doing. All makes for a fun episode.
This one had a Caroline scary factor of hiding her eyes behind her hands when the big baddy showed up. She did peek to see what was going on.
I am grateful that there is going to be a 4th season of Doctor Who.
