iDontThinkSo

The iPhone was released yesterday with much ballyhoo and news reporting. There were lines and reporters interviewing the people in the lines about why they were in line. It is a nifty gadget. I thought that the iPod was a nifty gadget too. We do have one in the house but it belongs to Ariel. I may in the future get one for myself or maybe the iPhone but not today or anytime this summer or even this year. The hype surrounding this swiss-army knife of electronic devices is just amazing to me. And I am an Apple computer user from way back. I have extreme loyalty to that brand of computer.

This morning I perused E-Bay to see what the phones that people snatched up to sell on e-bay are going for. Right now about twice the price seems to be the norm if that. But if you order from Apple.com online they say you will have it in 2 to 4 weeks. Which is not a lot of time but in our "have it now or you are a loser" society, it seems an eternity. It is like the PS3 and the Wii. People waited in line for days to buy one to put it up on E-bay and sell it for a profit. Some people thought that they could fund their kid's education on the money they could see from the sale. Now you can get both for under retail on e-bay still sealed in the box. Also these models don't have the bugs that the first versions have which included bursting into flames because the power supply was faulty. Waiting on new electronic devices is not a bad thing.

I am grateful for the electronic devices I have which have the same functions at the iPhone.

Doctor Who Tag

When you see this post, quote from Doctor Who on your LJ.

Sarah Jane Smith: The Doctor likes traveling with an entourage. Sometimes they're human, sometimes they're aliens and sometimes they're tin dogs.
[pauses]
Sarah Jane Smith: What about you? Where do you fit in the picture?
Mickey Smith: Me? I'm their man in Havana. I'm their technical support. I'm...
[realises]
Mickey Smith: Oh my god. I'm the tin dog!

(School Reunion)

Countess: [referring to The Doctor] My dear, I don't think he's as stupid as he seems.
Count: My dear, nobody could be as stupid as *he* seems.

(City of Death)

There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea is asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace; we've got work to do!

(Survival) (And probabaly one of my favorite Doctor Who quotes)
