Some early thoughts on DragonCon

Peter is getting back from Wizard Con Chicago tonight. The girls and I will be happy to see him again. Then I think we get some time to be a family at home for a while. Then it is off to DragonCon and a few other conventions in the fall. Some the family will attend and some are just going to be Peter.

My panels for DragonCon are starting to shape up. I will be doing a puppetry demo (as in how to build the critters) for the Art Show. Other places you will see me is Costuming, Star Wars Track, and Young Adult. I think I will be busy and this is not a bad thing. Peter will have his usual table as well as various panels and activities. Ariel may even be on a panel in the YA track. So look for either my name or Peter’s since I will probably be at a number of his panels as well if you want to find me.

DragonCon is an interesting convention since it has a little bit of everything if you want or you can plunk yourself down in a track and immerse yourself in your favorite part of fandom for the whole weekend. It is sort of the science fiction and fantasy convention equivalent of an all-you-can-eat Chinese Buffet.

I have learned a couple of things over the years including pacing myself so I am not a blithering mess by Monday. Eating is important too. I tend to get a hardy breakfast and a decent lunch since I never know what dinner is going to be or when. Comfortable shoes are something you need for DragonCon. They are adding a hotel this year for the gaming and registration and some programming I believe. I am hoping that most of the tracks will be where they have been every year since they added the Marriott to the mix.

I am grateful for all the fun I have had at DragonCon and am looking forward to more fun this year.
