Debates, Spinning and Balls
Peter and I watch the debates last night. Ariel made it through the first 45 minutes before declaring she was tired and went to bed. Peter did a running commentary in his blog during the debate. (www.peterdavid.net) Bush has a fidget problem. He managed almost to stay still when it was his turn but when he was not on camera he couldn’t really stay still. He also became visibly angry at times especially when John Kerry said that Bush was a bad leader. Notice that Kerry never said that Bush was a bad person or a bad President but he was a bad leader. Kerry needs to learn to speak on point and give a direct answer to a direct question. He tends to talk around questions rather than direct them. Bush was much better at making it seem that he was answering the question that was being ask of him. I think we had a lot of circular answers to simple questions. I am not an undecided voter. I know who has my vote in November. The debate I am really looking forward to is the one Vice Presidential debate next Tuesday.
Caroline has a new game that is just weird. She spins around and around looking at the floor until she can’t stand up any more. Then as soon as she can get up again, she goes back to spinning. She did this for about 20 minutes last night and would not be distracted from it. Her word use is increasing too. She knows her body parts and will point to them when asked. She also know the difference between Caroline’s nose and Mommy’s nose so she can be asked to point out one or the other and she touches the correct noise. She also meows like a cat. She sounds like Stalin, the most vocal of the indoor cats, when she meows.
The regular baseball season ends this weekend. There are still some races to be decided in the last couple of games. Then we have the play offs. I wonder of the Cubs will make it to post season play. If the Cubs don’t and the BoSoxs do, I may cheer for Boston depending on what the Braves do. The Braves did better this season than anyone was expecting of them. The preseason reports made it sound like they were going to be in close to last place this year. The Mets aren’t finishing last but close to it. They didn’t make it to 500. The cry of rebuild is being heard through the land of the Mets fan. My question is rebuild with what? They traded most of their good prospects away for older players that did not production either the offence or the defense that was promised. There is not much left back on the farm. One thing that the Braves have done consistently is use their minor league teams to build their major league team. They have done this very well. With the change in management I hope there comes a change in attitude towards building rather than always trading. They should stop trading their players like baseball cards.
I am grateful for good neighbors.
