Conventional Wisdom So many conventions so little time

Peter receives a lot of invites to attend conventions. If he wanted to, he could pretty much go to a convention a weekend. We have limits on the number of conventions we go to just for the sanity of the family.

We enjoy going to conventions but for us it is part of the job rather than a leisure time activity or a vacation.

Don’t get me wrong, we have a lot of fun at conventions and we still enjoy it. Caroline loves them.

There are certain conventions that we go to every year. These are the ones that we know people and they know us. Caroline can wander around because she grew up at these conventions.

She knows the rules are different at conventions that we are attending for the first time.

We get the lay of the land when we arrive. Knowing where the bathrooms are is important and what food is available at convention centers. Also for the first day watching the flow of traffic and when things are crowded is important. By the end of the convention we have a good feel for it and whether we will be recommending it to our friends.

Getting home always seems almost more of an adventure than getting there.

I am grateful for all the good conventions we have been to.

I love conventions - my daughter Emily is six and she hasn't been to a ton. We are going to Mad Monster Party (horror con) in Charlotte, NC and this will be the first whole weekend convention she goes to. She's cosplaying as Rapunzel from Disney. *L*

Dragon Con is my favorite but it's so huge that she won't be attending again (she walked in the parade with me a couple of years ago) until she's 10 or 11

I don't know if this is the wrong place to ask this, but - has he ever received an invitation/offer from ARCHON (near St. Louis in early October; been going for about 40 years)? If so, might he consider going? (I attend it sometimes, know some of the organizers, would greatly love to see him there.)
