Happy Twelfth Birthday to my Daughter Caroline

Dear Caroline,

I came down this morning and found you dress and ready to go with your bookbag and lunch packed. You double checked to make sure you had everything you needed in school today. Breakfast you are having at the school because you are attending the Principal’s breakfast for doing so well last marking period. You are my little self starter.

You have been on this planet for twelve years now and in such a short time you have put your mark on it. You have done things and been places that many kids, and a number of adults I know, have only dreamed of doing.

You have such a caring heart. You want to help both people and animals that are in pain. You are thinking about what kind of career would allow you to help people the most. I tell you that you still have time to find what you want to do with your life. I am not sure that you believe me.

You have a vivid imagination. I do listen to what you are dong when you are playing with your toys. They have always been lucky enough to go on some grand adventures. And you do a lot of crossover so the My Little Ponies will attend Monster High for example. You have ideas for stories and tales you want to tell. You have started to write some of them down and I hope you continue to do so.

You’re smart. Grades aside, you can work through mental problems really well. You have a good retention of information from things you have read. You are working at taking abstract principals and writing about them. This year you are learning a lot about writing essays and reports along with test taking. It hasn’t come easy but with each you get a little better. You know how to organize and outline a paper which is a skill you didn’t have at the beginning of the school year.

You love to read all kinds of things. From books to comics to magazines and just about anything else with words in it. You do have your favorites that you reread but you like reading new things. I know if I buy you a book you want, it will be read and treasured.

You love to draw. You have always loved to draw since you could first hold a crayon. You still sit and work on your art with such concentration. You have even made a business of it at conventions. Did pretty well this year too.

You are helpful around the house. We have been working on basic cooking skills which include clean up which is not your favorite activity but you do it. Laundry is next.

I am proud to be your mother. I love you so much Caroline.

I can still remember the first words I said to you while you were on my chest being rather upset about the whole thing, “Welcome to the world my baby girl.” Now twelve years later, I am so happy I said those words to you.

Love-
