Fairytale Adventures and Reviews
Ariel and Caroline went to see Annie. Caroline has wanted to see that play since Ariel told her about Ariel and Peter being in the play. The fact that I ran the sound board for the show was not in the story but I did.
Ariel managed to work some David Magic totally on her own with her own connections and got them back stage where they got a tour of the back stage. Then Caroline got to meet the animal trainer for Sandy and the doggies who are currently playing Sandy. All the dogs that they use are rescues. One was practically on the table when it was rescued. Now these dogs are living the life. Their dressing room is one of the bigger ones at that theater.
Caroline was so happy with the whole experience. She had never heard the soundtrack or seen the movie so she went in with minimal information. We gave her some of the background on the Depression, the New Deal and who FDR is. She had some idea because of her social studies course. She liked the show over all and enjoyed the music as well.

This weekend we also saw “OZ: The Great and Powerful” in 2-D and watched this weeks installment of “Once Upon a Time”.
OZ is a film I am on the fence on about the 3-D. This had some things in 2-D that I know would be kicking in 3-D.
Overall I enjoyed it. I liked the nods to both the books and the movie. The cast was solid and the effects were nice but not over powering. More on it behind the cut and I will allow for spoilers in the comments so you have been warned. There are a couple of scary moments for the younger set but everything turns out OK for our heroes. No swearing or sex, which is nice. Implied dalliances only.
We have been watching “Once Upon a Time” since it started last year. The premise interested us when we read about it. We had enjoyed Jennifer Morrison’s performance on House. The show rapidly became must see TV for us. The writing was slick and the characters interesting. It didn’t take long to get use to the format of bouncing between the characters in Storybrook and back in Fairytale land. Again spoilers for the second season behind the cut and spoilers allowed in the comments
OZ is not a perfect film but it is a very good film. You can see how we would get from here to when Dorothy arrives.
Caroline was NOT HAPPY about Theodora being the Wicked Witch of the West. She claimed that her sister tricked her from being good to being bad and that wasn’t right. I thought it was a pretty good plot twist and played beautifully by Mila Kunis.
Franco did a good job of the journey from con man to Wizard.
I liked that both Bruce Campbell and Ted Rami were in the film. Ted was harder to spot than Bruce although Bruce did not look like Bruce it was the voice that gave it away.
Sam Rami did a very nice job with the script and treating the previous material (books and movies) with a certain reverence.
And it looks great from the grey of Kansas to the colorful land of OZ.
I do recommend seeing it in a movie theater. There is a lot going on in the corners and the scope will be lost on a smaller screen.
Once Upon a Time has been exploring families since the first episode. What is a family? How one deals with one’s family both biological and chosen. And recently this theme has become even more prevalent with the addition of Regina’s mother Cora. And then there was the reveal that Rumple’s son had a dalliance with Emma, daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, giving us Henry who is the force behind a lot of the events in the show.
The end of season one magic came back to Storybrook as the spell was broken. Second two was clever enough to limit how far the magic went and that if one of the characters crosses a line, they go back to their Storybrook persona with no knowledge of their fairytale life. The writers found a way around this to allow Rumple to leave to find his son leaving Regina and Cora enough time to find the dagger that controls the dark one without Gold in the picture.
I am looking forward of where they go from here as this last episode tied up a bunch of story plots and created a whole bunch more. We still have the traveler who saw magic being used among other plots including Belle and stuff going on in Fairy Tale land.
I am grateful for so much fun entertainment we experienced this weekend.

And the funny-to-me thing is that my original intent in replying was that I love that Ariel has inherited her dad's magic, it tickled me. I'd opened your post in a new tab yesterday so I'd remember to reply later and forgot all about the cut. So this morning I'm scrolling down to the reply box and 'WaitBruceCampbellwhat???' :D
