Yesterday was not a good day to be a commuter

Especially if you ride the LIRR. Due to a fire in a switching system that is over 100 years old, everything at the Jamaica station was FUBAR'd. I know some people who had a really hard time getting home.

In my neck of the woods, I helped Ariel finish up a quilt she has been planning all summer. She picked out the fabric and the pattern she wanted and I sewed it. Took most of the afternoon, but she has what she wanted.

A picture of Ariel under her many fabric quilt.

It was rather nasty weather all evening and today is starting with some rather heavy downpours. We do need the rain. Our lawn looks rather sickly but it does prevent activities outside today.

So today is a few errands and then back to doll making.

That's a great quilt. With the fleece backing, right? Did she make the pillowcase she wanted, too?

I saw the LIRR news, and while that's certainly the worst it's ever been, it's not the first time, nor the second (nor third, etc.) that the transfer point through Jamaica station has been fubar.

I used to commute on the Port Washington line. My boss lived in the same neighborhood as me, and we would often travel together. We had several times when we felt quite lucky for being on the "orphan line" that wasn't affected by problems at Jamaica.
