I'm back
I spent the last week in Florida with Ariel and Caroline visiting my parents at a time share that they have had for over 20 years. A weeks family vacation at the beach was a constant in my childhood There were an odd set of rules that were created over the years for the beach stay. There are also rituals that haven't changes. Eggs Benedict on Sunday Morning, reading books, nap time even for the adults. It is a week to relax and take a step back from the world. We don’t watch the evening news. We use to not read newspapers for a week. In the place we went to when I was very young, there was no TV. I can remember hearing the Watergate hearings on a small transistor radio wedged in a window so the antenna could pick up the station.
This was Caroline’s first encounter with the mighty Atlantic Ocean. To say that she took to it like a fish to water would be an understatement. She loved the beach. She played in the tidal pools and in the sand. She tried for runs at the ocean and the surf. We let her play little in the surf if we were holding her hands. She also loved the pool. I bought her an inner tube with a vest attached. Once she became confident, she experimented with spinning around and then kicking to get to where she wanted to go. Peter and I agree that the next step is swimming classes for her.
My computer seems to have picked up its screen hiccup again. It is working now, but I may be off-line for a bit while it is repaired. *sigh*
