Radio Silence?

There are times when I write in the web log that I think of the lyrics from 1776 sung by John Adams

Is anybody out there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?

I know that my traffic is not that of my husband's web log. I also know that a lot of readers have gone to the shorter forms of Facebook and Twitter for their social reading. Others have just stopped visiting for whatever reason. And I do ponder why people stop reading or commenting. Am I writing material that is just that banal? I do tend to stay away from certain topics here on purpose.

Then I stop and remember why I started writing this web log. It started for my family to have a day to day look at my life with Caroline and the rest of my family since there were so many things happening so fast in her little life. I didn't want to forget to tell them. Then I started to make a record for Caroline to read down the road if she wants to. She can read about the things she did before she could really remember doing them and recall things that she has vague memories of. Friends found out about it and they started reading which makes getting together with them much easier because we don't have to spend a lot of time catching up on things because they have been reading my web log.

I have made new friends through this web log. I have met people in real life that I would not have if I hadn't had a web log. I have participated in groups and activities that I would not have if it hadn't been for this web log.

So it serves several purposes for me. And I plan on continuing to write in it. If there is a pause, just put it down to life that got a little hectic and I'll be back once things settle down. We had some news that we are still processing so good thoughts for a good outcome would be nice to have.

I do have my regulars who do comment and I so appreciate that.

I am grateful that I have been writing here as long as I have.

I do read, faithfully, because I find your life so interesting but of late I haven't really had much time to comment. My health is poor and when it starts circling the drain, I spend a lot of time sleeping or in bed instead of in front of the computer.

No, you're not your husband. You're you and that's what I find most fascinating.

I'm grateful that you're on here and we connected. *smiles* I always love reading your posts even if I can't think of anything intelligent to respond with most of the time. :D

I read a lot; I tend only to comment when I think I have something to say. But I think I am a regular commenter here. (In fact, I comment here a lot more often than on Peter's blog. Funny, isn't it?)

(Aside: I recently got More Digressions and enjoyed the story of Caroline's birth.)

That was a great story and I bet it has a little more resonance for you these days *grin*

You are one of my regulars my dear. Besides we wouldn't have "found" each other without the Internet.

[identity profile] puppetmaker40.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I appreciate that.

No worries about commenting. I do honestly understand life taking over one's time and you have a lot to deal with off-line. So don't worry about on-line.

:waving:

I'm trying not to spend a lot of time online. When I am here, though, I always read, even if I don't respond often.

[identity profile] mabfan.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. :-)

In our case, though, we went straight to C-section, although finding out that we were doing it a few days earlier than expected was a bit of a shock. Nomi's still in the process of writing up the whole story.

[identity profile] wandereringray.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* This is true.

:waves back:

Yeah, I know y'all are out there and believe me it is doggone nice to hear from you but I also understand life is life and we all have stuff to do.

Sending positive thoughts your way - hope everything works out.

I enjoy reading your LJ a lot.

Kathleen, I read your LJ posts every day. (Conversely, I only look at Peter's blog about every other week.) I enjoy reading your LJ posts a great deal.

Sending you good thoughts and best wishes! And I know I have been mostly absent from LJ lately - I haven't found an app that lets me read, so I have to wait for actual console time. :)

*hugs*

Thank you. I do appreciate them a lot.

Thank you.

I enjoy reading yours too even though I don't comment often.

I have yet to find one that really works for the iPhone and Safari will only get you so far.

I understand the console time issue *grin*

Well... It's Nanowrimo month, which I think is bringing traffic down all over. I've also noticed some amount of general drop in the last couple months. A lot of people are over on Facebook. The good news is that most of the silly quizzes & memes are gone, along with the two line "I ate a pear & some tuna" posts. But, I think there's fewer people commenting as well.

[identity profile] gryphonrose.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't comment much but I do always read your posts, and I'm glad I can keep up with what's going on in your life this way, since we don't get to see you guys anywhere near as often as we'd like.

True Friends Know Who You Are... and Like You Anyway!

I love reading your blog. And reading up on Caroline and Ariel. I must confess that I initially started reading your blog through our mutual friend, [livejournal.com profile] kradical, though I think I discovered your husband's blog first.

When I read the dedication for PAD's book, Imzadi, I knew that his family was very important to him, and I wanted to have that type of relationship with my own spouse (one day in the future--I read Imzadi during high school!). Your husband is such a romantic--I thought you were both extremely lucky to have found such a sweet person to share your life with.

And when I started reading your blog, I loved reading about your work with puppets--especially the creative work you have done. I loved Fraggle Rock as a child so much more than the regular Muppets or Sesame Street, though Grover has a special place in my heart with that wonderful book about the "monster" at the end. I loved that you respected Jim Henson's work and were attempting to carry on part of his legacy, it seemed.

So, I'm so glad to have a LJ friend like you! I'm not sure if the feeling is mutual (you must have so many other readers, how could I be among the few that you read up on), but thank you for allowing me to have insight into the life of your family. You set a fine example of how family is supposed to stick together, though the rough patches of swine flu and the great times like Halloween comics. :)

When your blog is silent, I fear your readers will have lost something very special in our lives.

Put me on the reading but not really commenting much (on anyone) list.

*sends those good thoughts*

I'm here. I care.

You know this.

And I'm around as long as you want me.

Many *hugs*, thoughts and prayers.

I read you regularly - I'm just a bad commenter sometimes :( For what it's worth, I'm so glad that you're here :D

Gosh, I love 1776. And we ARE out here. :) Your Caroline will just love to read this when she's older.
