if it weren't for the internet, I would be pretty much cut off from human interaction with people who do not live at my house.

Yep. I so agree. I can talk to my parents face to face. Caroline can talk to her grandparents so they are not just a voice on a telephone.

I can talk to friends I haven't seen in ages.

As I just noted on my LJ, I just realized that we both first walked on the Moon and created what became the Internet 40 years ago in 1969. The actual impact and repercussions of each these days are completely opposite what was expected and predicted back then.
