Veterans Day 2008

If you appreciate the freedoms that you have, thank a Vet.

There is not a lot of military in my family. A couple of members were drafted for World War II and the Korean Conflict. But over the years I have gotten to know a lot of people who have served in the military and now I know parents and grandparents who have children in the Military with many of them serving over seas.

I can't support the war in the Middle East but I do support our troops to the hilt. There are a lot of military retirees in our town so there are a lot of opportunities to do what I can to help and show my support. These people are serving their country which is pretty noble to me.

Down the street from me is a building that is the Hall of American Veterans of Foreign Wars. Later today many of them will be marching down the streets of our town. There will be a laying of a wreath at the monument for our local war dead, which, sadly, has had several names added in the past couple of years. We applaud and we appreciate what they have done.

I am grateful for all that Veterans have done for my country.
