RTBTCKI Monday Morning in a post GoT world
There have been a lot of endings to things that we have been watching for a while this month.
There is Avengers Endgame, which is ten years in the making.
There is Big Bang Theory, which is twelve years in the making.
There is Game of Throne, which is eight years in the making.
All are things that I watched from the beginning to the end.
Endings are bitter sweet especially when one has a lot of time invested in them over the years.
Without spoilers, I was happy with Endgame and Big Bang and not unhappy with Game of Thrones.
The pipe work for all of those endings had been laid through out the shows. Nothing seemed to be a gotcha moment. At no point did I say “Oh Come ON!”, which I have when it came to other series endings. Each had a logical conclusion.
This weekend I took Caroline to her first concert that she wanted to see. It was an adventure in more ways than one.
She loves a group called BTS that stands for Beyond the Scene. They are also called the Bangtan Boys or Bangtan Sonyeondan. A seven member Korean boy band that has taken the world by storm.
We found out that they would be performing at Metlife stadium at the Meadowlands in New Jersey and got tickets for Caroline and me.
This was before the adventure to the LCCS was even in the works. So she went from never seeing her favorite band in person to seeing it twice in one week.
Also these were sandwiched between her Advance Placement exams at school.
Very busy week for her. Next is her Regents tests and final exams and then she will be done with her sophomore year.
Back to the concert, it took us longer to get to the concert and back than the concert itself. The traffic/parking situation at the stadium is insane. I don’t see how they have managed to get away with it considering all the big events they have there. We ended up walking to the stadium from the road leading to the stadium entrance because traffic was unmoving. Leaving took an hour and a quarter to get from where Peter was parked in the drop-off lot just to the entrance of the parking area to get onto the Jersey Turnpike where we found another accident, which added another 20 min to the trip.
The traffic within the stadium was pretty impressive as well. I do give them credit for changing so many of the restrooms to women’s rooms to accommodate the number of females. Anything you wanted to do was a line.
The concert itself was quite good. And there was a lot of audience participation. There are these programmable light sticks called BTS Army Bombs that are Bluetooth enabled. The user can control the color and intensity of the light(s). At the concerts, you sync up the light stick to your seat number and then your light stick is part of the show. It was very impressive to see the colors in the stadium change with the beat of the music. They could turn them off and on making patterns in the stadium seating. A very clever device that I believe I will be seeing other versions of at concerts.
As to the music, it did not assault my ears in fact I am interested in to listening more. It was a Korean Boy Pop group with all that is included in that set of words. I will say that their lyrics are very positive and encourage people to be themselves and love themselves.
At the end of the show each singer told the crowd how much the audience and their fans mean to them. Sometimes in English and sometimes translated from the Korean. They again encourage everyone to be their best and they were loved by the singers.
Caroline had a blast. I don’t think she sat down for more than a minute during the three hour concert. She sang along with the songs and chanted various chants with her fellow fans. Her throat felt a little raw the next day. I haven’t seen her that happy in a while. It was so worth the traffic jams both outside and within the stadium. I just say BTS to her and she gets a goofy grin on her face remember her experience both at the Late Show and the concert.
Next Sunday is our eighteenth wedding anniversary. For the first time in a long time we will not be traveling or at a convention. It will be a quiet celebration at home.
I am grateful to BTS for giving my daughter so many hours of entertainment.
