RTBTCKI (A Few Final Thoughts for 2010 Edition)
Like most years 2010 had its ups and downs.
In terms of my writing 2010, I co-wrote my first comic book for IDW. It was a Ghostbusters comic for Halloween. Peter and I had a short story in the Masked anthology. I worked on some other things but didn’t get any much further into the real world other than my computer. In 2011, I would like to find more anthologies I can submit my work to and get at least a novella done.
In terms of my art 2010, I kept working at it. I did win an award at LunaCon for my piece entitled the Sage. I sold a number of things at DragonCon in the art show. I sold a piece at New York Comic Con (Reid, they are goggles but more for show that for fit but I am betting you figured that out). I took Wendy Froud’s new course and enjoyed it very much. I learned some new puppet techniques and that I am better at pattern making than I thought I was.
In terms of family 2010, it was kind of settled. Ariel was at college for a chunk of the year. Caroline went from the first to the second grade and continues her education. Caroline got taller and more inquisitive about the world around her. Peter’s back surgery was unexpected but he came through it with flying colors. We all had our bumps and bruises but on the whole, we came out pretty well.
We added a kitten to the mix this year. Figaro joined our merry band rather unexpectedly. But as they say, cats happen. She is fitting in rather nicely now. The cats accept her for the most part. Kitty détente has been re-established.
We went to the usual conventions along with going to Chicago for the first C2E2 and to Madison for the last MadCon and spend sometime with Harlan and Susan. Conventions were fun as usual. The ones we go to every year are like homes away from home. We know what to expect and who to talk to if they aren’t what we expect. I-con moved back to Stony Brook which was wonderful.
Other travel was mostly Peter for work but I did go to Disney World for a couple of days to spend sometime with friends and see Ariel perform.
We lost some friends this year and had some real scares with dire health problems in others.
There was some serious suckage about 2010 but over all it wasn’t too bad. Yes, there are things that I wished had gone our way but we had other things happen that made up for many of the disappointments.
We are 10 years into the 2000s and I am amazed at how much my life has changed. Since 2000, I got married and had a child, gained and lost my dream job due to the economy, made many new friends and stayed in touch with my old friends, learned new skills, and been pretty happy with my life. I am at a pretty good place going into the next 10 years.
I am grateful for all the adventures we had this past year and in the past 10.
