RTBTCKI (The Con Crud or Mold? edition)

I may have con crud or I may be reacting to the mold that seems to be everywhere but my nose is seriously on the sniffly side and my throat feels like raw sandpaper.

I have a feeling that Caroline is going to sleep in since she was still awake at midnight last night. She was in bed but not going to sleep. So I sang her a lullaby and we didn’t hear from her after that. We have been working on trying to keep her sleep schedule about what it is for the school year, but she just hasn’t been going to sleep.

I had some slightly bad news for me about DragonCon. It is either going to work out in my favor or not. Today I plan to sit down and write back those directors who have written me so far about being on panels and maybe poke another couple to fill out my schedule. It does put me in a quandary about what I should work on next.

Speaking of my next piece, I have this wacky idea that may have been brought more to the forefront of my head because I now have a solution to one of my problems with creating it. Whatever I am going to do, I’d like to have it in the hopper sooner rather than later.

Peter is going to see Dr. Faust this afternoon to get his stitches taken out. Right now most of the pain he is feeling seems to come from the pulling of the sutures rather than the surgery.

Ya know that when one re-invents the wheel doing something that others have been doing for years, one can not claim that others are ripping them off especially when one is given examples of other people’s work that are using (basically) the same technique. Yes, you are using some of the new materials that have come out recently, but if these had existed way back when you bet your sweet bippy that others would have done what you are doing. I can think of about 4 other artists who do that sort of work and they do what you “discovered” before you “discovered” it.

To the person who ripped off a rather popular and published Doll Maker’s Pattern claiming it as their own. Shrinking a pattern slightly or modifying it slightly does not a new pattern make. And using a pattern that was from a book published in the last 4 years was really not cool. You should have known that someone (like the original artist) would notice what you did there. Especially when you left on the pattern some rather distinctive marks that she made on the pattern including a small piece of the watermark. I know the argument, since I have made it often, that there are only so many ways to make a leg but leaving the watermark? Not cool at all. Which is honestly why I draft all my patterns rather than deal with this sort of stuff.

Today feels like a sorting day. I have a lot I have to sort out in my head and sometimes sorting stuff out physically helps me sort things out mentally. That and I have to do some laundry before Peter goes off to San Diego with a couple of additional days on either side for business trips.

I also have bowling tonight. We’ll see what happens there.

I am grateful for Caroline’s proper use of au contraire the other day. It gave us all giggles for the rest of the day.
