Earth Day 2010

40 years ago we celebrated the first Earth Day. It was created by Senator Gaylord Nelson as a hands-on day to teach both about our planet and what we can do to help Mother Earth.

I can remember discussing Earth Day in my school and participating in activities at my college. It just seemed nice to me to take a day to stop and really think about this object that we owe our very existence to. No Earth=No Us. And to figure out practical steps to help the planet to continue to exist.

Caroline has grown up with conservation and recycling as things that you just do to be a good citizen. I give her high marks for turning off the lights when she leaves a room and taking paper to the recycling bin. Her school teaches the children to be aware of these kinds of things. And that’s good because if it becomes second nature and not that big a deal to them, think of what they can do for the planet in the future.

I am a big believer in taking care of the planet we are on. And I do believe that the baby steps we have taken will have an impact in the future.

I leave you with the Discovery Commercial that just leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling. I know it was first aired a couple of years ago but I think it still is relevant today because the World is AWESOME!

I am grateful for this Big Blue Marble that we all live on.
