National Crafts Month 2009

And there is a group that is trying to do in crafts what many attempt for a novel. They are doing a little project or a bit on a big project. I am joining them and am going to attempt to do a crafty thing a day or at least move a project forward as I go. What is going to be interesting is what I might attempt while I am traveling. Something for me to think about.

I like making things with my hands. It is something I can do well and feel good about after I am done. I wish I could draw but I have negative drawing ability. I can do a rough sketch about how something goes together so that someone else could use the information to build the object but that is about it. I do pretty well in 3-D so I have no idea what I have the disconnect. It might have something to do with the way my brain is wired due to being dyslexic. Or maybe part of my month will be just trying to draw and see if I can improve on my lack of skill.

Yesterday Caroline represented her school at the high school for a flag ceremony. She did very well marching along with the other children. I was so proud of her. She is getting to be such a big girl and I am amazed each and every day what she can do.

Occasionally she will still surprise and amuse us on how she sees the world. She has a small burn on her wrist and it is pretty nasty looking. I was talking to Peter as to how to cover it for school and I said that I need to get some burn cream. And we hear this moan from Caroline. Peter asked her what was wrong and she said, "You are going to burn me again?" "What?" we both said. "You are going to use burn cream and burn me again!" she said with growing panic in her voice. We then realized what she was thinking and assured her that what we were going to use would make the burn feel better not worse and we were not going to burn her with the cream. She was much happier about it after that.

I am grateful for non-stick gauze and paper tape.
