puppetmaker: (Fluzzies by Kathleen David)

Oh Grap!

I can feel that itchy feeling in my ears and down my throat. My nose is starting to feel sniffy. I just got over being sick and really would like to avoid it. So Vitamin C, here I come!

I have a couple of things I have to do today including restocking the larder with food. I was going to do this anyway because we need various items like milk, break, and cheese and Caroline is rather annoyed that there are no bananas to be consumed by her. We also have a snow/ice/sleet/rain storm headed our direction which may, or may not, be dumping water in some form on our lawn.

I belong to a number of doll, costuming, and puppetry groups on the net. Some of it is on websites and other parts are on mail lists. Each of these has a set of rules as to what is appropriate for that group and what is not allowed. On most groups you can promote your work but there is no outright selling allowed and that is stated in the rules of the community. In many cases there is a sell community that is attached to the group for that very purpose. I have been noticing a trend I am called "Tee-hee-hee Surely you will make an exception of little ol' me."

They come onto the board and turn their first post to the community into either a "look at my Esty Shop!" post or an "if you want this, I want to sell it and contact me" post. When informed by the moderators that this is not allowed, they fall back on a couple of excuses including that they didn't see it in the rules that they said that they read when they joined. Or they point to the rare exception like the breast cancer charity sale which was allowed. Some moderators bounce their tushies at this point but others let them stay in hopes that they will learn. Unfortunately all they seem to learn is another way to skirt the rules.

The other group that is annoying me is what I call the Sour Grapes Bunch. They rail against the perceived injustices that keep their style of art work out of a show and slag the show and its directors as unimaginative jerks who don't see their brilliance. They are given quite rational reasons why things are the way they are but they feel that it just shouldn't apply to them. Well I have seen what they wanted to display and it really either didn't fit in within the guidelines provided, was not on the caliber of the rest of the work, or was just like about 10 other artists in the show so that quota was well-cover (I mean honestly how many pictures of winged cats do you need in one art show?) and did a better job or was obviously derivative of another artist's work or was fan art when fan art was stated as not allowed in the rules. I have not gotten into all the shows I wanted to but I don't go on the Internet and make others uncomfortable to talk about a show they enjoy.

I am grateful for the rational people who read the rules and guidelines.
